Do you decorate where you work for the holidays?

  1. Okay this year we went all out on our Unit!
We have the most beautiful traditional looking Christmas tree! All covered with white lights, colored balls of various shapes and sizes, tinsel and red cranberry looking bead garland! We also used pine looking garland with lights and red bows and a little tinsel around our nurses station.
One of the girls who is like the Master decorator took all our Residents, (It's in LTC) names home and made snow flakes out of them, hung them by a ribbon and we hung all 60 from the light fixture that surrounds the nurses station.
There's all sorts of other decorations on the walls too! It looks so Nice for all the people who live there!
Actually there are two units in our building and they said there was going to be a contest... I just want it to look good for the people who live there and if a contest encourages everyone to participate then cool.
So does anyone else decorate at work?

We wanted to, but we were told all of these things were against fire codes and what not. Funny how our spoiled sister unit, ante/gyn, is allowed to have them though

We're planning an ambush this weekend when no suits are around!

Fire marshall did his visit as the tree was going up... didn't say a word...
We are expecting our state inspection this week or next so I'm just waiting to see what sort of scrooges they will be... I'll bet they won't say anything? Do ya think?

Our unit looks quite nice, despite the obstacle of having to decorate with everything out of reach and not toxic if ingested LOL. Actually I work on a beautiful unit to begin with so it's not hard to make it look festive.

we had a nurse working with us that had lots of decorations for every occassion and would put them up throughout the year. she was one of those master decorators like on nurse goodguys unit. i'm talking for all the holidays. she did this for years. then, poof, one year admin. walks through and says that violates the fire code. we don't even bother now. moral is too low on my unit anyway since we got the NEW boss.

We don't do the decorating, but the recreation dept does and I must say they have done a lovely job this year. We have a big tree with the works in the big TV room on the unit, things hanging from the ceiling at the nurses station, a little tree at the nurses station also and in the lobby there's a big tree decorated to the hilt with those icicle lights all around and snow flakes hanging from the ceiling. The residents are allowed to have a little tree in their room and some do with little lights on them...they are so perrrrrrty.

    That's too bad...
Fire code... Fire code my eye! You jut need to say, "But It's Christmas Mr. Scrooge!" Not like there's not paper on the desk... I mean come on if it's more than 18 inches from the ceiling then it should be ok...
I know what you mean about how morale can go down with a new boss!
We are VERY fortunate... our new boss is the Greatest! I asked him if we had to worry about our decorations and he said he didn't think they, (state) were that much of a scrooge...

Tiger, a year ago our place was the pits! We had an administrator that allthough I got along just fine with him, I think I was the only one? He had so many complaints from staff, visitors, families, even Residents until God only knows what the straw was that broke coorporates back but they walked him out one day... Of course we were still stuck with the DON from hell that he hired but... it wasn't long before she was gone too along with most of her buddyhireon's, Thank God! We had a staff meeting once and I told the woman that their constant threats of, "I'll write you up for (insert whatever petty thing that p!ssed her off that day in this space) and I stood up and told her in front of the rest of the staff that those threats were doing nothing but lowering the morale to a point that working there was becoming no more than a paycheck and that she needed to know that some of the people in that room were the cement that created the foundation of that facility" oh and I just went on and on for about 15 minutes... I think someone ended up dragging me out by my shirt tail! LOL! It was a good day when she turned in her notice and the new boss said just don't come back! We are very fortunate to have a boss who really cares about the staff, Residents and everyone!

We have 6 different Christmas trees up around the facility. Each resident's room (225 of them) are also decorated on the doors and in their rooms. All windows are too. It is a beautiful facility anyway, but each and every hioliday is spectacular!
