do you buy bulk?

  1. This is kind of a weird question but does anyone buy food by the bulk?

I have 3 teenage sons and it is extremely hard to keep food in the house, finding myself going to the grocery store every week !! Especially in the summer.

I'm always hearing, "Mom, we don't have any food"

My oldest son will go back to college in 2 weeks, so it will be a little better.

Maybe this is a usual occurance with kids.

    Thanks

I buy some things in bulk at Sams Club. It's usually stuff for my cake & candy business. Powdered sugar, butter, flour, sugar, etc. They do have quite good deals on some things, but some things they don't. You just have to be a good shopper and know what you're usually paying, and for what amount. Cheese and peanut butter are my biggies. I refuse to buy either of those anywhere but Sams. But there's only 3 of us, so we don't consume a terribly large amount of food.

We buy by the case. Saves money in the long run.
We also buy a lot of fruit when it is in season and cheaper.
We slice and dice and dry it out for the winter months.
Kids like it fine and we do to.

Thought about buying a car battery at Sam's....but I could just imagine them packaged in groups of 6!!

The only things I usually buy in bulk are cheese and toilet paper....have to have lots of toilet paper around the house to feel secure!! :roll :roll :roll

Never buy things in bulk. It's just hubby, doggie, and me now so no need to buy bulk supplies of anything EXCEPT chocolate, whipped cream, strawberries......ohhh.......that's the gossip thread.....so sorry... :kiss

I haven't ever bought anything in bulk before but I'm thinking of starting now.
I'm spending an astronomical amount at the grocery store on things like cleaning supplies, paper products, basic staples.... ever since the Mom and Pop grocery store went out of business I'm stuck buying at Giant, and some of their stuff is just entirely too expensive.
So I'm looking into a membership at Sam's club right now.
I wonder if they sell Amstel light in bulk? Definitely a reason to sign up... drinking a cold one right now.

thanks for all the great replies !

lately i've been making subs and trying to keep them stocked in the frig..lol..

with 4 males in the house, and 3 still growing, i guess i shouldn't be astounded by frequent trips to the grocery store.

cheese slices, juice boxes, toilet paper, etc.. would be good to buy in bulk. :wink2:

I can't say for sure if they have THAT brand, but I can tell you they have a SURPRISINGLY LARGE selection of beer & wine. I even got shots there once. They were prepackaged shots - Sex On The Beach and Kamikazis. They were in these little test tube looking plastic containers, came in a box of 30 for $10. I bought so many of those things.... I was putting them in stockings at Christmas time!

And Susan - the batteries don't come in 6 packs!

I love those test tube shots! I always feel like I'm a subject in a mad scientist experiment.

I usually get melon balls. Or sex on the beach.
That's cool. For some reason I was thinking Sam's wouldn't have anything in the way of beer and/or wine (the above was posted facetiously, I'm sure you'll be shocked to discover).
Of course, this is Maryland and here most grocery stores don't sell beer, so our Sam's might be different.
