disturbing poll

  1. I saw a report in the newspaper last week which I cannot get out of my mind:
from the University of Maryland comes a poll taken mid-May which indicated 22% of Americans think SH used chemical weapons in this last war and about 36% believe the US has already found Iraq's stashes of WMD.
    good grief.

I have actually met people who do not know SH & Osama Bin Laden are not the same person!

Amazing how uninformed so many are!
Hope they don't vote, but afraid they do.

I think the reason the majority of the country does support Bush is because the average American is just that disinterested in what is going on and they are fine with whatever the president decides is best. I am more current than most of my peers and I don't think I know nearly what I should.

I must admit, it must be a stressless way to exist, if you can do it, but I am just too interested in what is going on. Always have been.

This is not to say that there aren't many supporters of this administration that aren't fully informed and truly do believe that the US is headed in the right direction, but I do believe those who are dissatisfied with how things are being handled have been following along more closely than the average Bush supporter.

How could such idiots possibly find their way to the poll?

Well, they sit around at Starbucks and the barbershop while their wives are working. They then pick up the kids at school. Hate to think what those kids eat for dinner. Pizza & fast food burgers?

You would think the places they hang out would bring about some awareness, but they talk sports.
They are 30 somethings who went to school with my kids. Only interested in sports then too. I know the mother of one. She seems satisfied he is not in jail, on drugs, or living with her. Never asked her about Iraq or Al Quida.

Yes, we are ripe for a totalitarian form of government. It has been many years since the importance of becoming educated about our gov't & the responsiblities of citizenship have been emphasized by families. Sports & entertainment have captured the mind of our nation. More's the pity.

I graduated high school in a state where a year-long study of gov't was required. I'd moved from another state where 1 semester of gov't & 1 semester of economics were required. I went ahead & took the full year of economics as well, since I had to take the full year of gov't.

I live in a different state from either of the two noted above. There is no requirement for these subjects to be a part of high-school curriculum. It shows...boy, does it show. The federal gov't is feared & few have any idea of the basis for our form of gov't or the ideas that influence our monetary system. Very scary.

Ignorance is not bliss...at least not in this case. A lack of understanding & participation in our gov't does nothing for "We the people..." & hands the power over to our elected public servants (officials, they call themselves).

    Heaven help us all.

It's funny because I consider myself to be a pretty average person so I can't imagine people who really believe that! I wonder why they think the US government wouldn't let people know they had found WMD in Iraq, especially when they have been getting criticized daily for not having found them!
