Did anybody watch the CMA's last night?

  1. This was the first time I've ever watched them all the way through. When I worked there, I was working backstage, and we got bused - okay limo'd - over to where the party was so we could get set up before the hoardes arrived. Eat a little shrimp, drink a little wine and get ready for all the wanna-be's to try to manipulate us.

I have never really liked Country Music. But I enjoyed what I heard last night. I guess it's back into the overproduced, bad for Country Music part of the cycle, but that's fine by me.

I thought that Shania Twain looked beautiful but wow that first outfit was revealing. Just go ahead and paint your body, for all the coverage that cat suit provided!

Did anybody else watch it? I'd never heard that "fishing song" before, but I thought that was cute. It was nice to see some familiar faces on television. I can't watch close friends perform on television - that's just tooooo creeeeeepy. But this was just right, for me.

Loretta Lynn's office used to be upstairs from CMA's. She looked really good last night and relatively unimpaired!

*sigh* I had a 24-hour bp monitor on last night, so I couldn't sleep anyway. Maybe I'm a little bit burnt out now, but I'm feeling just a little pull to go back to that life. The kids are grown up and out now, so what would it harm? It always gave my hubby a vicarious little thrill to be part of the industry. His job at the CMA awards was to sit in people's seats when they were up getting awards, and his job at the party was always to go get more shrimp and wine and crab claws for those of us who were protecting the cream of Country Music from the wanna-be's. We were ALL rude to him, but he didn't want to give up the show business. LOL

    Okay - I'm done. *sigh*

    Love

We got it on tape cuz we were at church last night. My hubby has always been a country music fan, but of the old country music. Folks like Porter Wagnor, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams SR. and Jimmie Rogers. When we were dating (a hundred years ago) I was the only 16 year old girl around who knew who Hank Sr. was much less knew the words to all those old songs. My daughter is now into "today's" country music. We saw just the last few minutes of the show last night. Could not believe that Porter Wagner is just now being inducted into the Hall of Fame. What in the world were they thinking. Thought he was more charter member material. We will probably watch the tape tonight. At least we can fast forward through the commercials.

I am only in my 40's discovering Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams and such. I love alt country and I heard a Gram Parsons love song on Sunday that moved me to tears. I love Allison Krause, I suppose she is more blue grass-- but alot of these are so interconnected and pure American. So much music..... so little time!

Oh, yeah, Dennie! I've been a country fan since '68, when rock was beginning to have a bit of a druggie sound.
Hubby and I watched the CMA's last night, and were thrilled with all of the awards Alan Jackson won. I just wishe that he and George Strait could've shared the Entertainer of the Year award!

Oh, BTW-I thought Loretta looked great, BUT-I think she might have had something besides hair color on board! She nearly messed up all the award announcements she had to make, and Vince Gill bailed her out. She also almost ripped the announcement apart, trying to get into it. Methinks the old girl was flying high!

I happened to catch the tail end of Shania in a patients room, and she did look good. I loved her last record and am looking forward to more. To me, she's pop and not country. But I grew up listening to Hank Williams, Faron Young, Porter Wagner, REAL country. (But I hate country music now).

I told my mom....remember when country singers dressed like country singers?? A few still do....Alan Jackson does.....boy he swept the stage didn't he?? I don't care for Shania much....I can listen to her music some, but I can't stand the "costumes".....

When I started at CMA in the early 80's, the people would DRESS UP for the CMA's. It was an occasion, you know? Not long after that, it started getting much better ratings than any of the other awards shows, Emmy's, Grammy's, ANYthing... and it seemed like the next bunch of people took over, and it started to change.

I remember Billie Ray Sirus (I probably spelled that wrong) performed that song with the grungiest outfit on, nasty old jeans and a kind of brocaid vest-thingie with no shirt on underneath. I'd been working 18 hours a day for months at that point (not too impressive to nurses, but *I* was tired) and I just wanted to snap at him for being so messy. I did make a snide comment.

I just think it that wouldn't hurt people to dress up for the show, you know?

Don't worry - they're referring to the awards held in 11/02. You should be able to catch the 2007 awards later this fall.
