[color=#783896]you are in a desert. you have with you the following five animals: a lion, a cow, a horse, a sheep, and a monkey.
[color=#783896]to escape the desert you are going to have to get rid of one of your animals.

[color=#783896]which one do you drop? (you can use whatever logic you like but keep track of which animal is discarded when!)

    [color=#783896]you have 4 animals left.[color=#783896]

the desert is burning up! it goes on for miles.

sand is everywhere. you realize, to get out, you are going to have drop another animal.

    which do you drop?

    you have 3 animals left.

walk, walk, walk. hot, hot, hot.

disaster! the oasis that you were looking for is dried up!

you have no choice but to drop another animal.

    you have 2 animals left.

ok, it's a long hot walk. you can see the edge of the desert way on the horizon. unfortunately, you can only leave the desert with one animal.

which one do you drop and which one do you keep?

before looking at the answers below, make sure you know which animal you dropped in what order.

    find the answers below...

these answers are based on japanese archetypes.
    the desert represents a hardship.

    the animals represent . . .

    • lion = pride
    • monkey = your children
    • sheep = friendship
    • cow = basic needs
    • horse = your passion.
so, in the face of hardship, you will sacrifice each of these things in turn. your last animal represents that thing which you cling to at the expense of all others.

I picked "sheep" as the last animal I'd discard, so guess I value friendship at the expense of all others....and friendship includes one's kids, so I didn't sell them out to others after all. :smiletea2:

I kept the horse so I could ride him out of the desert! I dropped the monkey right away because I can eat the sheep and the cow if I needed to and use all their pelts for shade. The desert is hot, so I may need the others for food and shelter!

Oh no!! I should never have children. I dropped the monkey first.

I kept the sheep. Horses are scared of fire, lions are mean, cows need grass and water, monkeys are useless unless you eat them - and I'd rather die first.

I kept the monkey.....I remembered a wildlife documentary I saw once, where a desert monkey was able to lead a man to water. I dropped the lion first.

I dropped the animals in the order given in the original sentence. I thought it was some kind of trick question and you were asked to keep track of irrelevant details only to pop some trick at the end. So I didn't put much thought into which animals I was dropping.

I doubt this test is any serious reflection on my character or priorities in life. If it were, I'm in trouble!
