Dental surgery whine...

  1. I HATE THE DENTIST (my apologies to those who are in dental related professions and such) I had dental surgery yesterday and I am miserable today. I feel like someone has punched me in the face. Repeatedly. And from the lovely brusing that has blossomed on my cheeks, I look like it too. I was sent home with quite a few stiches in my mouth, 4 less wisdom teeth and a couple of RX's, and I am a mess. The pain meds put me to sleep, I cant eat, and if you want a good laugh, watch me try to drink. Thank god I did this on a Friday so I can have the weekend to try to recover somewhat. I honestly was not in this much pain after having our daughter! OKay, now that I have my whine out of my system, I am going to go take another Vicodin, get a new ice bag and lay down......

I hate the dentist too. Hope you feel better. At least you can type on your 'puter and you don't have to talk to anyone.

My sympathies, Lori. I ,too, am not fond of the dentist. In fact, I'm phobic & my behavior is so dreadful that my dentist, in his infinite wisdom, makes me take valium before I visit him. On my first encounter with him he said, " Pam, Do you have tourrettes syndrome???" This was because my language was less than ladylike. Feel better & get your rest. Pam

You have my complete sympathy. I also hate the dentist and have been avoiding getting my wisdom teeth out for many years.

Been through the same thing - boy did it suck. Horrific the first day, really bad the second day, not so nasty on the third day, and by the fourth day I was almost back to normal. For the first 24 hours I took Vicoden q4-6h ATC. Made my toes tingle, but by the third dose I was very comfortable. It was better to sleep it off anyway. Switched to Advil after that, and by the fourth day needed nothing.

The worst part was the swelling - I "woke up" from the sedation during the procedure and must have struggled because the side they had been working on was three times as swollen as the other side. All swelling gone by 1 week.

    Hang in there!

Had all 4 of my wisdom teeth cut out at once, and needless to say i was put under for it. No WAY i'd stay away for that. I've got such anxiety over a cleaning that i have to load up on anxiety meds for the dentist to do his job.

Me too. My dentist has been plotting to pull my wisdom teeth for a while. I hope when I do get it done they won't be pulled all at the same time.

Thanks for all who responded, I feel much better today!!! I have been able to control the pain with some tylenol now. Very little swelling and my bruises are turning a pretty yellow, :chuckle
I am rather impatient with these stiches, I want them out so badly, have to go back Friday and they come out then. I can't wait. At least this is all over with and I will never have to do this one again!!

Thanks, you guys are the best!
