Daughter won scholarship

  1. My daughter has been fighting the good fight for the last 3 years to obtain a degree in history/political science so she can teach. Yesterday, she was awarded a full scholarship for next year. Her final year, but the best part is, she was named top scholar in the history department, found out she only needs 2 classes to finish with duel major of history/gender studies plus still have political science minor. She plans to teach 5 years, let her kids grow up some and then go to law school. She says she wants to represent women who need her. She wants to educate women about their rights, individual and collective, especially work related and domestic. I am so proud of her. I could not be there but she knows I support her battle in every way I can.

    Wow, that is so wonderful.

My son is majoring in political science/history. He was thinking of teaching but is leaning more towards politics. Yikes! I'd love it if he got a scholarship . . . his private university is costly.

So great when our kids have goals that look beyond themselves and towards being of service to others.

    Again, congratulations to your daughter!

Yes, this sure brought a bright spot to my week. This covers the expenses of her last year, so her work study will go more for her and the kids "comfort". She has worked her tail off, not just to do the work but to prove scholars come from anywhere, even rural areas of poor states. She is finally having some professors and others connected with the university see what a bright star she is to the school and to those around her. Not just because she is my daughter, but because she is a star, I am so overjoyed this came her way.

It's so great to see parents take such pride in their kids' accomplishments. I hope to be able to brag on mine this way when they are older, too.

Hell, I brag on mine now and they are 13 and 5.....

ah well. Kids, gotta love em. I am truly happy for your daughter, and you, too, Barefoot. You OBVIOUSLY did a great job raising your daughter.

Thanks again for the kinds words but I do feel I was guilty of an inappreciation of my daughters while they were growing up. Sure I tried to do the good parent thing, but too many times I have fallen short. I did not see their radical differences from most of the other kids around here as such a positive thing, sometimes it was just too much work. Now, I do appreciate their differences, I am proud of their accomplishments, but I really do think they have done most of it without as supportative a mother as they needed. Sometimes we wish we could take credit for the taste of the good lemonade, especially when we know just how many lemons it took to make it, but the truth is, The Girl did it and mostly on her own.

never too late, Barefoot. At least you bothered. I wish other parents would. You deserve a pat on the back for the efforts you have made. Way to go.

That is awesome!!! We don't even know her and we're proud! You must've done something right, so don't bother w/the guilt thing (guilt, the gift that keeps on giving), it's a waste of energy!
