Cyberbegging...

  1. Have you guys heard about stuff like this? People set up websites telling people that they're in debt and ask for people to donate money to help them get out...and people actually do it! I read about www.savekaryn.com a while ago - she was $20K in debt (from overspending on her credit cards) when she started her site, and now she is OUT of debt. There was a ton of backlash against her, but there were also a lot of people who, IMO, had more money than brains. She's even coming out with a book about the experience. Oy vey...

I was talking to a co-worker today, and did a search on "cyberbeg", and now there's a website devoted to cyberbeggars! Augh! It's www.cyberbeg.com, and there's link after link after link of people with their cyberhands out. I'm sure there are some stories who are legit (not counting the girls on their who are asking for money for boob jobs), but who can you believe?

Has anybody else heard about stuff like this? What do you guys think?

Ha! I was actually thinking last week (half-heartedly) about doing this to raise $$ for nursing school.

    Wish I'd thought of that.

I heard about that on the news and most of it was really stupid stuff. I mean I could understand it if people were begging for money to save their or their childs life or something but not something like helpbuymeanewcar.com !!! What will people think of next !!

I came across a cyber-beggar site a long time ago (maybe 1997). This was a college studen'ts website. I think he was asking for money for pizza and beer. That site was sort of funny and the guy had raised about 25 cents. Haven't seen one since, but I'm sure there are many more out there.
