I joined Curves a few weeks ago and I love it. I think it would be even better if I had a friend to work out with, the ladies look like they are having so much fun chatting with eachother. I am only going 1-2 times per week because of my crazy schedule, but I still feel like I am getting results: less stress, and I don't feel quite as guilty eating the occasional bowl of ice cream!

Would you mind explaining exactly how it works? A friend asked me to join with her, and I visited the site, but it didin't say much.

i'll know more tonight about it, but i did see something on tv and everyone looked like they were having fun! I really want to do something and i'm so tired of the traditional gym routine, and it's sooo hard to keep motivated when the people who work at the reg. clubs are usually too good to talk to you, especially if you are over weight they just don't want to take the time out and help! :angryfire it makes me mad!

From what a co-worker tells me is that it take roughly a half hour of working out and it's kind of like circuit training you continuously move to the next machine until you've done your entire routine. Also they give out prizes and after you loose so many inches you get prizes and things like that...kind of many of us DON't like to get free stuff! LOL!

i'll let you all know about it tonight sometime!

Have friends and relatives going. Just remember that some of these companies are all the rage for a while then they fold up and take your membership money with them. I am just guessing but I think that while they are new, loads of people are joining and they have a good inflow of money. After a while the novelty wears off and the income stream slows and they tank.

the thing i think is more reliable about this place though is that there are over 7,000 of them open, it's not just in one region of the US or one or two states it's all over!

I've been going for a year and a half and usually go three times a week, sometimes 4 because our Curves is open on Sat for 2 hours in the morning.

I like it because it has hydraulic weight machines (good for us older women who need to do resistance exercise to increase bone mass and lessens injuries people get using free weights).

You exercise on a machine for 30 seconds and then "recover" on a padded wooden station by dancing, jogging, walking or whatever. Then on to the next machine. It takes 30 minutes to do the workout and then you stretch. We also have an exercise ball and I do extra sit-ups on that.

I haven't gotten tired of it yet because it is accessible and easy.

I love my Curves days! I try to go 3 or 4 times a week. What I like about it most is that I can be in and out in 40 minutes; it's used by "real" women. If you are into admiring yourselves, like happens in other healthy clubs, don't bother, because there are no full length mirrors hanging on every wall.

The one thing I have mentioned to my own director is that at times (and it used to be ALL the time) they played Christian rock music. The first time it was an absolutely horrible rendition of Ode to Joy. I thought it might be a fluke, but then I realized that the entire CD was religious in tone. Something about listening to music about sin and all while I work out just doesn't feel right. I go to church for that and can listen to my own kind of religious music at home or in my car. I think this is most inapproppriate to play in a workout club that has branches in this diverse country and in many other countries as well. As an active member of a Protestant church, I find that offensive, so I can only imagine how Jewish, Muslim, agnostic or those with other belief systems might feel.

I was told by the head office in Austin that "Curves is a Christian organization." What I think they meant is that it is owned and operated by Christians, because nowhere in the application agreement or in the company name is that mentioned.

I've been a member for almost 2 years and while I haven't lost a lot of weight, I am definitely more toned. I have muscle definition in my arms and thighs for the first time in a long time. Other ladies that I see there all the time, however, have lost lots and lots of weight. They had lots to lose, and several have also gone off their hypertension and diabetes meds.
