Creative uses for AOL discs

  1. Yesterday we got another of those ubiquitious AOL discs in the mail. On the way back from the mailbox my daughter and I decided to have a discus throwing contest with it (she won). That sparked off a bit more fun thinking up new uses for AOL discs. Here are some we came up with:

    1. Individual snack trays
    2. Mini artist pallette
    3. Glue two together with shiny side out to make a suncatcher
    4. Bobeches (unfortunately they are too small for a standard size taper)
    5. Groovy disco medallion
    6. Coasters

Can you think of some more?

  3. by SmilingBluEyes my yard, they FLY! The kids love to play w/them....but it probaby is not the safest thing to do, I admit. Sometimes, I just turn my head and cringe. What a terrible waste they really are......

Hang them in and around your garden to keep the crows and other birds and critters away !

OMG, aimee, that's hilarious. I have about half a dozen of these things too, and I can't quite bring myself to throw them out, but I know I'll never use them.

    I'll add:

    Rope belt toggle
    Handy makeup mirror
Panel the ceiling above your bed--seeeexxxay!
    Christmas tree ornaments
Wind chimes (okay not very melodic ones, but still)
Place above pets' feeding bowls so they can check themselves out (lookin' goooood, there, Fluffy)

They make a very cheap (as in free) source of targets for shooting at!

Just remember to clean up your mess, always take out more than you came's the only way to keep ahead of the slobs.

Just delete the info on them and use them again for something else.

We do that all the time.

I made sculptures out of them till I got bored. I still have a shoebox full of them waiting for my next artistic inpiration. I know the coaster thing is cliche, but I really do use them for coasters! They work great!

Oh, that is good one! Why mess up a perfectly good pie plate when there is an aol disc at hand!

Stargazer--some good ones there! It would be fun to slip one in the purse and actually pull out and use as a make up mirror--I would love to see the looks of observers.

Bob--nice way to vent on aol there too!

Russell--why don't you try that one first and let us know how it worked out.

Suzy--Gonna do just that if we ever get a cd burner!

    Swiftee--sculptures! You ARE creative.

My daughter has cut them up and embedded them into things she was decorating. Instead of curtains in her bedroom (which she has ABANDONED to go off to university), she pained all the window panes and has various size and shaped pieces of AOL discs pressed into the paint.

I keep the BOXES/containers they come in and use them for discs that I want to keep.
