Cookies, Cookies.. And I don't mean chocolate chip! How to get rid of those bad boys!

  1. Okay first of all I'm not a computer expert but these steps have worked for me... (as long as you follow these steps)

(Most people are skeptical about doing anything with their computers for fear that they'll mess something up so maybe a few people who understand what I'm talking about with regards to "cookies" will read on then confirm these steps before anyone tries it so you feel more comfortable about it first.)

If you share a computer and you post here, then you should always hit the LOG OFF button located at the top of "every" posting page when you leave the computer. It takes about 2 seconds and could save you a LOT of problems in the future!
Does everyone understand the word "cookies" pc speaking of course...
A cookie is an internet address stored in your computer. Every time you click to go to a different page the address of that page is stored in your hard drive. I could look at your history and see everything that you have seen if we shared a computer. I could write a post in your name that could get you in trouble. There are good reasons to delete your cookies!

It is nobodies business what you view and it could also affect your computer speed! If you delete your cookies you will need to re-enter all passwords etc because you are erasing the memory of the computer that you were ever there! It shouldn't be a big deal as long as you remember your passwords... (I keep mine stored on a disc outside of my hard drive).
Here's how to Get Rid of Your Cookies! (Windows ME and IE 5.5, don't know about Windows XP or whatever it is called)
    2 ways
    First way:
If you use the internet explorer screen, click tools, internet options, Delete Files, (a pop up box should appear and you click in the little box to check it, yes to delete all offline content), click okay (on the pop up), click the word Settings, click view files, (you will probably still see some internet addresses) hold down on the CTRL key and tap the A key, then let up on the CTRL key (everything should turn purple, highlighted), now hit the Delete key, (on your keyboard) and you'll have to confirm to delete all those cookies! Now click the X on that screen to close it and you should be at the internet options screen again... at the bottom it says clear history, click it and confirm. This is for IE 5.5, (I downloaded IE 6 but had too many problems and like this version best) TIP: while on internet options screen I have mine set to only strore history for 1 day. (I think it automatically wants to store for up to 20 days, and click okay or apply if you change it.)

    Second way:
If you are on some ISP that has a funky looking browser such as AOL, (if you like it, sorry but I hate it for taking advantage of people) (You might as well get use to using IE and get rid of all those annoying pop ups then get cable at a few $'s more) I had AOL for over a year and had such a hard time cancelling plus one dial up is about the same as another, they just charge more than most)
Okay sorry you gotta keep me on track here...
    Second Way:
go to your desktop, double click my computer, open your C-drive, (hard drive), (double click it), (you may have to click show contents of this drive each time you go to this window or back to it), double click the folder called Windows, double click cookies folder to open it. Hold down on CTRL and hit delete, then I think you have to confirm the delete. (all should disappear) Now hit the back button, (top left) and find Temporary Internet, (NOT TEMP) open the Temporary Internet folder and repeat the CTRL/delete process, hit the back key again, Now find the folder HISTORY and repeat the process with this folder. Then just close everything off & empty your recycle bin.
Here's another TIP: Did you know that if you go Start, Documents, the title of every document you have recently viewed, is displayed there... (not always a good thing) yes it's a convenient way of finding recently viewed documents but I much rather keep this empty too... Here's how:
Start, Settings, click Task Bar & Start Menu, click Advanced tab, click CLEAR, OK!
I hope the tips help if you didn't know how to do this already! If I left out a step, does anyone want to add it... (I'm positive that I didn't though!)

I have windows XP and I flushed all my cookies once -- found my way there by accident when I was trying to delete something else. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do it again. If anyone knows how please let me know. Or I'll bet you know when I figure it out.
Now nobody else has any access to my computer, but it would worry me if someone did. I hadn't exactly been surfing porn sites, but there were some pretty suggestive images in that file. For my eyes only.

Need advice for what to do with all those free fricken aol CDs I get all the time. Frizbee anyone?

adriene...on the newer systems right click on your IE icon on your desktop....menu should pop up....go down to the bottom of the menu where it says properties and left click... a window will pop up and there will be several tabs at the top...click on general...bout half way down the page there is a section marked temporary internet files... there are three buttons ...delete cookies...delete files ..settings...( u dont want to mess with the settings button)....tip: when you use the delete files button you want to make sure that delete all offline content is clicked on the window that will pop up. This should work on anything from 98 ver 2 on up....

I just bought a "cache and cookie washer" program. So when I sign off it does the work for me.
