Congrats to our talented poet laureate, Vegas!

  1. Our talented friend hasn't shared this with you yet--probably too modest--but she got a STANDING OVATION at a poetry reading last night!!!

Way to go, Vegas!! You are headed places, girl!!!

Now, I think she should write a poem in honor of her sistuhs and bros here at allnurses..

And maybe a "kiss-off" one to that guy in Indiana.

Vegas, will you share your crowd-pleasing poem with us?

    Gee, thanks guys!

Stevierae, you devil you! It was a church function, I was asked to write a poem about our annual Harvest festival.

A little history: The annual Harvest festival started 42 years ago where the mass choir (200+ members) have a huge dinner and a concert. The purpose of the harvest is to invite those who do not normally go to church, feel that God has turned His back on them, or just need something to lift their spirits. Each year, the choir starts by singing a song "Sinner please, don't let this harvest pass". At the end of the concert, there is a huge table of fruits, vegetables, and gift baskets free to anyone and everyone. So, given this, this is what I wrote for the occasion. The feast this year was attended by about 200 people in our fellowship hall. The microphone system was out (GREAT!) so I walked out in the middle of the crowd and did the reading:

    My Harvest

    Alone I felt
    hanging on this vine,
    no breath in me
    no sun, no shine.

    My life so void
    cluttered with worldly things,
    no room to stretch
    no way to be.

    The air so filled
    with smog and soot,
    bad things clinging to me,
    I couldn't look.

    Dead I was
    hanging on the vine,
    living so high
    without sun, no shine.

    One day I fell
    my vines dried and cracked.
    I'd fallen to the ground,
    no way to climb back.

    The world walked past me,
    kicked dirt in my face!
    I was down and out,
    fallen from grace.

    As I laid there
    ready to shrivel and die,
    I heard mighty voices
    coming from high:

"Sinner please, don't let this harvest pass!"
rang true to my broken soul,
    Is this comfort at last?

    How could I go?
I was so down, so low.
    Was my soul worthy?
Could I be rescued from below?

"Sinner please, don't let this harvest pass!"
    How did they know?
Did I have a right to ask?

    I listened to them
    mighty voices singing strong,
    so willing and accepting
of my soul that went wrong.

    Such power, such conviction,
in the words of a song!
    My heart yearned for forgiveness,
    my soul cried to belong.

    I stayed there
    paralyzed in fear.
    Tears ran down my face
as His hands drew me near.

The Savior plucked me from the ground,
wiped the dust off my face,
"I've prepared you for the Harvest," He said,
    "go and take your place."

I walked down to a table,
a feast prepared for a King!
    I'd never known such happiness,
    the joy of His offering!

    My soul is still rejoicing
for the blood He shed for me.
I pray the Harvest is plentiful
in saving souls as He did for me!
