Computer question?

  1. I just got a new pc, and was wondering if it was possible to transfer all my favourite files, to a new pc?

I am going to have to copy all my files,so I may not be online much, as I'll have two computers to shout at!!

Any computer whiz kids able to help me out?

Yes there is a way. There are several programs which will assist you in doing this. Here is a link to one program called Move Me: http://www.wugnet.com/shareware/spow.asp?ID=479
This can be a little tricky sometimes, so you may want to find a friend who's really handy with computers and ask for assistance.

    Good luck.

Thanks todd, I had a look at the linked site, but to be honest it is out of my depth, and out of my friends I am the most computer friendly, which is scary considering how little I know.

If you have a cd burner, you can burn some of the info on a cd. I also used a yahoo account and e-mailed my favorites there and then e-mailed them back once I had my new computer up and running. The last computer I bought-a Dell-came with a program to transfer info and files from one comp to another.
    Good luck!

There are many options that you can choose.
I think 3 are the best
    -----------
    Option 1
    -----------
Take the advice of dosamigos76 and burn them onto cd.
If you don't have one move on to the next choice.
    -----------
    Option 2
    -----------
Remove your Hard drive from your old computer and install it into your new one. Then you can transfer the files over quickly and safely.

    -----------
Option 3 - (only if you have cable or DSL
    -----------
Not sure if you have a router for your DSL or Cable in your house but if you network the 2 computers together you can just as quickly move all your files from your old computer to your new one real fast without opening your computer.

If you have any questions please feel free to message me.

    Good luck.
I personally think that option 2 is best. Its really easy and fast to do.

Browser favorites? Look in My Computer, go to Windows and there should be a Favorites folder. Copy that. Networking would be my choice. You can get a router for =+/- $40 nowdays. After you link you just drag and drop things onto the new HD. Hang onto the old HD. "Trade ins" usually only add up to $5-10 off the price. If it still works don't give it away.

    Another dumb question:
I have set up my laptop internet dial up exactly the same as my pc, yet the PC works and the laptop won't.

Could this be because of different windows versions, or is it more likely to be something I have done?

    Thanks.

Check the control panel--->system to make sure you have the modem installed properly. Also make sure you have all the numbers filled in. There is a help cascade that will help figure it out. Start--->help----> modem

Or you can do what I always do.
Hire a 12 year old to take care of everything.
