Open the page your pictures are on, right click on the actual picture. A pop up list will show up, click on the bottom item (Properties). Copy the web address from the grey box, starting with http://www.
Then you can use that to put the picture here, using the IMG button on a reply page, just paste it into the box that pops up when you click ion IMG

this is also known as bandwidth theft or "hot linking" and is illegal.

this is a link to a description. you may also do a google search on bandwidth or hotlinking and get many other sites that describe them in detail.

    I'm sorry.
I was under the assumption the pictures were on the ISP of the user. Posting your pictures from your own server is not illleagal??

I don't believe that hot linking is illegal, although you could be sued for stealing the person's bandwidth. Basically it's just bad form. People are paying for their bandwidth and when you hotlink an image off their server you're costing them more money.

The actual material on the webpage may be in public domain, but that doesn't mean you are allowed to steal their bandwidth. It's one thing to "borrow" a graphic from a webpage and save it to your own machine for use. It's an entirely different thing when you "hotlink" the image. Check the link that RenaRN2003 posted and you can see that there really is a difference.

I have three web sites which cost a varying degree amount of money to keep up. I usually find a photo put it on my personal site (usually) Fiebke and "hot-link" the photo to my site.

However. . . I always wondered about all of the 'hits' it my receive when people view the photo. This particular site (my personal one) comes with the Internet access capabilities I have with the local cable company. (Cable modem rules!) I know that I have a 10 MG limit to the number files I can have saved on the server. However, I don't know the bandwidth limit.

So far, no one from my cable company has contacted me to. . . ummm . . . give me a gentle reminder not to "hot link".

    Wow! Hot-linking & Bandwidth usage! Something to consider next time I post a photo. . . from my own web-sites. . . .
