Computer advice please!!!:)

  1. I am moving our "family" computer up stairs to my room since I am the only one who uses it. The question is . . . when I unplug my computer to take it up . . . Will I loose all my documents? and is a regular phone line what I put into the computer for the internet? I have a phone line going into my room, and I don't know if that will work or not. I'm kind of dumb when it comes to connecting these things. Any help would be appriciated.

you can move it without losing any documents and as long as the line up stairs is active you can go online with it
    hope this helps you.

turn it off correctly, then unplug it...I used color coded tape the first time...I was a newbie, but really everything only plugs in one place, and some are alreadt color coded..and as long as you have a dial tone, the telephone line will work,,,if you get a splitter, then you can have both puter and phone plugged in at the same time...of course can`t use both at same time...man do I love my cable modem.....good luck young lady, it will be fine

Phone lines are what you plug your computer into to connect to the internet, so yes your phone line in your room will work. Just make sure you unplug the internet connection from the jack in the wall and plug in your phone so you can use it!

Usually everything on the back of your CPU (that's the tower, or the thing that you use for your cd's and disks) is color coded so you'll know where your mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers and what not go. Before you unplug everything, try to make a mental note of where everything goes. Or do something like cactus wren said and color code the tape, or write on the tape what goes in that hole...

You won't loose any of your documents, it is completly safe to move your computer around. Just make sure you shut it down first. Also be very careful to not bump the CPU on anything, because that can damage your hard drive, and then you could lose your documents and your computer won't turn on. So be VERY CAREFUL.

    Hope I helped!
