Clean underwear? Not in Norway

  1. this thread regarding underwear is being aired to the public again. it was being examined by the moderators. . . looking for loose threads and possible uncleanable soils.

the international pool of moderators found that: 1) some of them don't change their underwear on a daily basis; 2) some do indeed change their underwear on a daily basis: 3) some don't wear any underwear at all!

so. . . we ask that all members remember that the changing and/or wearing of underwear is indeed an individual preference that is not confined to any national boarder.

as always, be respectful to anyone who may or may not be wearing underwear.

norwegians 'are the dirty men and women of europe'

norway is home to some of europe's dirtiest people, according to a survey.

the study found seven per cent of people in norway changed their underwear only once a week.

the survey, conducted by ac nielsen for norwegian underwear maker dovre, asked 1,000 norwegians between the ages of 20 and 60 how often their changed their underwear.

some people admitted to changing them even less often than once a week. more than a third said they wore the same underwear for two days or more, aftenposten reported.

people between 41 and 50 were the least likely to change their underwear regularly, while people with partners were found to change their underwear less often than single people.

the survey showed 11% of norwegians change their underwear two to three times a week, 18% change four to six times a week and 58% change daily.

don't the mothers of norway tell their kids to make sure you wear clean underwear in case you end up at the hospital?

    Ok, THAT IS GROSS.

Reminds me of my grandparents though . . . . from Arkansas and they took a full bath/shower on Saturday nights only. It is a washcloth under the arms the rest of the week. I lived with them during college and my grandma used to tease me about showering every day and washing my hair. "Your hair is gonna fall out Stevielynn!!".

I loved them. They were a hoot!

Talk about a different culture! I think the Norweigians are also the same people that don't generally use deodorant and shower much less often that we do. If you think about it, though, if everyone does it, it probably tricks the senses into believing the odor isn't that offensive.

    Still, tourists beware!

I find this very hard to believe .. I shower daily, use deo daily and change my underwear DAILY
perhaps one study (done by who, Dovre's site has no mention of it ) does not tell the whole picture ?
sbic56 .. perhaps you just might be mistaken .. I have vacationed in Norway.... mind you I just might be dirty enought myself not to be able to smell 'em

I think people such as these can be found in ANY COUNTRY ON EARTH....it's about priorities and access to facilities, I am sure.

for some, daily hygiene like what many of us in the US practice, is not only not done, but considered RIDICULOUS and WASTEFUL. Let alone, hard on skin and hair.

I have relatives who shower every other day or less in wintertime and they NEVER stink. Their hygeine is accomplished by how much they sweat or work up the need for such cleaning up. It's cultural, also..... I would be careful not to generalize one's thinking regarding any country or group of people, regarding hygeine or lack of it, just like with anything else.

I'm glad that you wrote t his, or I would have.

Having had the opportunity to visit Norway on many occasions, I have never come across this situation. If it does occur, as SmilingBluEyes states, it probably happens all over the world. Let's not generalize...Lord knows that we don't appreciate it when nursing is generalized.

    O. K. I can see that this thread is already getting heated. It's going to turn into one of those "atomic war of words" type debates! I can just feel it. . . .

I just want everyone to know that EVERYONE has the right not to change their underwear! And it doesn't matter what country your from!

    I know this from personal experience. . . . .
