Christmas Candle Question...

  1. ok.... (shining bright light into everyone's face)

how does one get candles on the xmas tree-- and not burn down the house in the process?

What color candles do you guys use on xmas/yule (the 2 holidays are really similar)

we use silver and gold on the table, and our altar... its the whole god/goddess thing.....(silver for the goddess, gold for the god)

but, our house is always that way

I would highly recommend not putting real candles on a tree. However, back in the "old" days, that's what they did. There are special holders that fit onto the tree branches and hold candles. I have seen them with alligator type clips on the bottom and I have seen ones with twist tie sort of things, as well as a variety of other clamps. They don't go in lanterns (at least not traditionally). They are lit with a stick sort of thing (I am sure there is a proper word for them)...it's basically a long stick with a flame on one end so you can reach the candles at the top without knocking the tree over. Then you use a regular snuffer to put them out. Obviously if you used real candles you wouldn't leave them lit unattended.

Yes, I wrote about that. We still lit the real candles on the tree.
Important: fixing the candles on the outside of the branches, with enough space between the upper branch.
use the little "candle-holders" to put the candles on the tree. (they look like litte clips)
When the candles are lit, never leave the tree alone with a) a child or b) an animal or c) a husband with a full belly.
always have a bucket with water in the room.
Don't lit the candles of the tree after the first week, because the branches are too dry already.
(no problem about that here, since we don't buy our tree till a few days before christmas)
Sooooooo, not only in the "old" days!
    Take care, Renee
btw: the candles are either red or white
