Child of the 70's

  1. Okay I have to admit it. Especially since the 80's thread is making a run again. I was not a child of the 80's. The 80's were spent in a blur of big hair, bars, and too much alcohol!

I found this about being a child of the 70's! I could relate much better to this stuff! My kids have not heard of most of these items listed here!

...You wore anything Izod, especially those wind breakers that folded up into a pouch you could wear around your waist.
...You owned a Jordache anything, or remember when Jordache jeans were cool.
...In your sophomore class picture, you're wearing an Izod shirt with the collar up.
...You know, by heart, the words to a Weird Al Yankovic song.
    ...You remember 'Battlestar Galactica."
...You know them meaning of these three words, "Atari", "Apple", "Pong."
...You thought "Weird Science" was a masterpiece.
...You remember 'Friday Night Videos" before the days of MTV.
...While in high school, you and all of your friends discussed elaborate plans to get together again at the end of the century and play "1999" by Prince over and over.
...You took family trips BEFORE the invention of mini-vans.
...You rode in the back of the station wagon and you faced the cars behind you in the "tail gunner" position.
...You actually know who Rick Springfield is.
...You remember with pain the sad day when the Green Machine hit the streets and made your old Big Wheel obsolete.
...The phrase "Where's the beef?" still doubles you over in laughter.
...You remember when film critics raved that no movie could ever possibly get better special effects than those in the movie Tron.
...For the girl crazy bunch: Your first sexual dream occurred to thoughts of Jeannie, Marsha Brady, of Samantha from Bewitched.
...For the boy crazy bunch: You thought Sean Cassidy was "dreamy," lusted after "Ted, your ships photographer" on the Love Boat and Chachi.
...Your hair, at some point in time in the 80's became something which can only be described by the phrase, "I was experimenting."
...You ever wanted to be gagged with a spoon.
...You remember when there was only "G. PG and R" rated movies.
...You learned to swim about the same time Jaws came out and still carry the emotional scars to this day.
...You ever wanted to learn to play "Stairway To Heaven" on the guitar.
...You know all the words to the double album set of Grease.
..."All-Skate, change directions" means something to you.
...You ever owned a pair of "Pop-Wheels" that handy little combination of shoe and roller skate that lasted about a year on the open market.
...The first time you ever kissed someone was at a dance during "Crazy for You" by Madonna.
..You ever used the phrase "kiss mah grits" in a conversation.
...You had ringside seats for Luke and Laura's wedding.
    ...You know who shot JR.
...You sat with your friends on a Friday night and dialed "8-6-7-5-3-0-9" to see if Jenny would answer.
...You owned a pair of Rainbow suspenders just like Mork used to wear.
...You were too young to go see the Blue Lagoon so you just had to settle for second hand reports.
...You remember when your cable TV box had the three rows of numbers and you had to move the selector switch accordingly.
    ..."Feathered" hair.
...You had a pair of "Zips" and made that Z mark in the ground everywhere.
    ...VCR's cost $1,000.
...There was nothing strange about Bert n' Ernies living together.
    ...Rotary phones.
    ...Rotary TV channel dials.

These sound more 80's than 70's! I was born in 75 and can relate to a lot of them!

My in-laws still have a rotary phone (from the 70's too!!!)

You know, I was watching an old Mary Tyler Moore show the other day and almost busted my gut. Lou was trying to set Mary up with a buddy of his. Trying to build the guy up for Mary, he said "he has a PHONE in his car! How many guys do you know with a PHONE in his car??!!" I almost died!

My memories of the 70's are much different .I lived in a lodge(teepee) in Colorado for awhile, never watched tv,shaved my legs or ate meat, and I heard about 3 mile island on the radio.

I remember when feathered hair became all the rage! Gosh that dates me! I was in 8th grade and begged my parents for a blow dryer - they had just come out too!

I can't imagine living without my blow dryer now!

I agree; a lot of this is more 80's than 70's.

Now, start asking about disco, punk rock, Nixon, Jimmy Carter...that's 70's.

Sanakruz, if your screenname is any indication of where you live, what an appropriate place for you to have end up! When my daughter attended UCSC--graduated in 1999-- there were and still are plenty of "tree-huggers"--(a term of endearment to me). I lived there for 6 years myself, a block up West Cliff Drive before work pulled me "over the hill." In the mid 80's I used to drive around a 1977 Datsun B210 with a rack for a surf board and smothered in bumper stickers like "Love Mother Earth" and "Question Authority." My kids even painted baby footprints from the hood of the car, over the top, and down the back.

*sigh* One day, I'll get back to the coast.

I'm a teen child of the late 60's and 70's.

Ah yes, I remember this well!

I remember vividly watching the names of hundreds of those killed in Vietnam roll across my TV screen every night and crying every night with my mom. I cannot hear Taps without feeling a deep pain.

I also remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the day that Nixon was impeached.
