Can anyone tell me what this means??

  1. Hi all. Just wondering about something. I am now on Advair for my asthma, and it is more under control than it was. However, whenever I sneeze, it causes excruciating pain in my chest that goes away when the sneeze ends. It feels like a torn muscle in my chest. I have been dealing with this for about a year now. I thought it was just an anomaly, but whenever I sneeze it feels asif my chest is ripping apart. I have a doc's appt. coming up soon, but can any of you guys give me any ideas as to what causes this awful pain when I sneeze?? Thanks guys. You all rock.

Thanks Honey. Ya know, when people ask when does it hurt I feel stupid for saying "Only when I sneeze."

You should never feel stupid. Advair is a new inhaled steriod, right?? I've heard of quite a few weird s/e of advair, just never of what you described.

Let me know what the Dr. says. You've got me interested now!

This was bugging me way before I started taking the Advair. But I always thought it would go away on its own. I have no idea what it could be. But I'll keep you posted.

My guess is that sometime in the past, you tore or stretched a chest muscle, which can take a long time to heal and is easy to re-injure. Sneezing probably aggravates it, as would any sudden, violent movement of the upper torso. Of course, you should check it out with your doctor for your own peace of mind (and ours ). Please let us know when you find out, OK?

I thought I'd heard that it's pretty common for asthmatics to end up with a strained/torn chest muscle.... maybe that's it and it's just aggravating it when you sneeze?

I take Advair too - can't get used to that sickly sweet taste, blech! (but I guess it's better than not being able to breathe) :chuckle
