Calling all football fans

  1. This has little to nothing to do with nursing other than the fact that I've created a free for-fun football pool on Yahoo and am inviting all interested nurses to join in the fun. Check out the thread in the Student Nursing forum:

Chris, or anyone else, do you know a good website where I can find a "football primer for clueless chicks?" I understand the basics, but I think that understanding the game better might make it more tolerable, err I mean enjoyable, to watch!

I don't know of any websites in particular but might find the following books interesting:

    "The Chicks' Guide to Football"

"The Female Fan Guide to Pro Football"
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...790944-8785729

"Snot Bubbles! A Football Primer for Moms, Wives & Significant Others"

At our house, the WOMEN are the sports fans.....football, baseball, NASCAR, skateboarding, snowboarding & the Olympics, we watch 'em all! My husband and both boys just roll their eyes at us whenever there's a race or a game on. The only sport we don't like is basketball, unfortunately the only pro ball we have in our area is the Trail Blazers (boo! hiss!) My father, who also disliked basketball, used to say that they should give both teams a hundred points and then let 'em play the last 5 minutes of the game. (Works for me.)

Dunno. I grew up in a home where both parents were sports fans, and if I hadn't learned to love football and baseball, I might as well have been an orphan! My DH, though, never did care for sports, and neither of our sons are into them either, although both the 15-year-old and the 12-year-old can throw a baseball hard and fast and would make terrific players if they were interested. Now, none of us girls (which include my 21-and 18-year-old daughters and my older sister) is particularly athletically inclined (though I was very active as a teenager and still enjoy non-competitive physical activity.....even as a fat old broad in a walking cast), but we love to watch. I'm better at explaining football strategies than recipes, and my sister is a literal walking encyclopedia of auto racing. I guess that is unusual, but it's just the way our family is.
