Call me old-fashioned...

  1. Wondering what sorts of concessions you refuse to accept from modern life? So many things can be done more quickly and conveniently, but there are some things I like doing the "old way."

For example, I love to make bread by hand. My tea is from a kettle, not a microwave. And as much as I love the computer and email, I also enjoy hand-writing notes to people.

    Anyone else?

I still play and buy vinyl records.

I don't eat much processed or conveince foods like lean cuisines and tv dinners, like to cook whole food meals when possible

I brew tea with green tea leaves, but use instant coffee

Don't use a dishwasher, do them all by hand

Have to say I never write letters anymore and don't do many long distance calls

    I don't have a cell phone

I do alot of woodworking and remodeling of my house....I use alot of old tools...I.e hand powered tools instead of power tools. I have them but something about cutting a mitered corner with a hand saw or plaining a piece of wood by hand really connects you to the piece. ( I have the power tools...just don't use them often)

    I had to think about this . . .

Probably cooking is the place where I don't like all the prepared foods. I like to cook from scratch (most of the time). Like, when making mexican food, I cannot eat those refried beans from the can. Have to re-fry my own. Love to cook pasta sauce from garden tomatoes and other fresh veggies. (my family likes the old hamburger sauce though).

I don't make my own bread though .. . . love my mother-in-law's homemade wheat bread though. We make G.G. toast . . . .great-grandma toast - buttered with sugar and cinammon.

I have a cell phone for emergencies. Don't use it otherwise. Love my computer. But think thank you's should be handwritten.

The first thing that comes to my mind about being old fashioned is the way I talk. I hang onto some of the ways my grandfather and his group of old time farmers talked.
    I recon ......
    cotton pickin.....
    out yonder....
    over in the south 40.....
    spect I'll........
I get teased alot at work, needless to say, when something rolls out of my mouth without thinking. I get some strange looks:roll

I still cook long grain white rice in a pot. Never did see the need for a rice cooker.

I still make biscuits from scratch.

I use loose tea leaves in an infuser.....seems to taste better than tea bags.

Most veggies I buy are from a roadside market.....they seem fresher. BUT

I have an 80Gig hard drive with an 1800 + Athelon chip with red storm overclocking. There are 3 other computers in this room.

We have 3 cell phones and 8 televisions.

We have 2 DSS dishes and boxes (currently-first one was $999 can you believe it?) I think we've been through about 7 systems.
Last one was free....$49 with at $49 rebate.

Probably next year this time all this will seem hopelessly out of date, just like the 286 with a 80meg hard drive next to me.

Much prefer to hang the clothes outside on the line to dry. Winter to the dryer, however. Used to make all our own breads (and not in a breadmaker, either!), kaiser rolls, pizzas (homemeade dough), even potato donuts. All veggies were out of my own garden. Was really into homesteading for about 10-15 years. Loved it.

hmm... I'm an old soul, I think...

I use loose tea leaves in my tea...
i use a dip pen to write my correspondance, on my nice stationary...
I use wax seals (ask goodguy if you dont believe me)
    um... I cook from scratch...
    I practice 'old religion'
I hand make my pasta... sometimes I color it w/ spinach from my garden...
I have a record player...and, love my Frankie...
    geesh...
i handmake bread.... no machine for that...
I do take rapid transit w/ my metrocard to pay.... no tokens for me...
    I own a cellphone...
I own a super hyped up computer...
ooh.. and a littermaid litter box...

    hehehe
    mix of new and old...

We do all our cooking from scratch. Nothing from a box or mix.
Would rather play the guitar than the radio.
wood heat before forced air heating.

I have my own garden...loved fresh veggies! I also really enjoy refinishing antiques (stripping, sanding & staining...by hand)...especially love finding an old piece that would go with something my grand-parents handed down to me. Play piano...haven't learned to master the guitar like my Dad..., but I try. Love to hang clothes outside....they smell so good. Like home cooked meals...do not eat those frozen tv dinners...too picky! Enjoy walking & reading too.
