Cabin Fever (flooding update)

  1. I'm in the Texas Hill Country and we have been flooded since Monday night/Tuesday morning. My family has really been blessed in that we are high enough up from the river that we didn't have any flood damage but I haven't been able to get to work since Monday. Hopefully I will be able to GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE BY MONDAY!!!! Can you tell that I am suffering from a SMALL case of cabin fever? We didn't have anymore rain since yesterday morning, but then it started POORING tonight at 8:30pm. I was ready to CRY!!!! But, it only rained for about 1/2 hr...YEAH!!!! :hatparty: Can't get out of the immediate area, even though the flooding is going down, alot of bridges have been washed out. I didn't think I would ever say this, but I WANT TO GO TO WORK!!!!!!!!! :imbar Even just to see somebody other than my parents (don't get me wrong, I love my parents, but ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!:chuckle). My mom and I went this afternoon and helped clean up the Fellowship Hall at our Church. Not too bad, just had to do alot of mopping and sweeping.

Wow, what a mixed blessing! No damage for you or your parents (physical, that is), but that cabin fever! Hope things are better soon: water level falling, cleanup proceeding smoothly, able to move about as previously. Saying a prayer for ya now.

Said a prayer for you karalea...and your family. :kiss

We're in Texas too where the rain has been horrid. Two nights ago, we woke up around four in the morning to the sound of rain coming into our bedroom's upper outside wall. Now, we live in base housing, mind you, and the housing is older than dirt, but I never dreamed the walls were that porous. The water filled up two pockets of paint on the wall making them look like two large milk filled breast (double xxs) :chuckle I kid you not! We called maintenance, and they called the next morning to let us know the repair was contracted out and nobody will show up until the roofs are dry. Well...knowing what we have already experienced over the years with military contractors, we'll be PCSing out of here before we see one of them. Gotta laugh to keep from crying...that's all I have to say. Hang in there, karalea! My thoughts are with you. :kiss

Well, it hasn't rained anymore and I found out that I will be able to get to work today. YIPPEE!!!! I will have to leave home a little earlier than usual because one of the bridges that I have to cross is still out so I will have to detour around that area. Not going to be as long a detour as I thought though, just about 10-15min rather than 1-1 1/2hr. Cheerfuldoer, hope you and your's are doing OK. I hope you get your damage repaired ASAP. There are a couple of Bible Verses that I think fit the occasion...

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor things to come, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God. --Romans 8:38-39

    Another would be--Isaiah 41:10

Amen to that, sister! :kiss We still have not seen sight nor hairy of the contractor who supposedly was given the work order we turned in to have someone come out and assess the damage to these military quarters. No surprise here...the government is always the slowest to respond to situations like this. Glad to hear you are able to get back to work. I'll be thrilled when I am able to do the same thing. Nighty night now. :kiss

Good to hear y'all are OK... my house is in Lytton Springs (between Austin and Lockhart). We seem to be at "high ground", cuz while we get a bit of a river behind the house, it keeps moving and <mostly> drains into our tank. The kids and the dog love it!
