BURNING CD's ..Calling Heather and others..

  1. About this burning CD's , yes, the first few times I heard that term, I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to burn their CD's. And then, I decided they must be talking about those little square things.
Anyhoo, I don't really expect burning lessons on this thread. But I am curious about a few things. For example, If I buy the software for burning, does the software contain directions for burning? I have a fancy-smancy Dell computer. Called them up one night with a long list of things I had copied from a magazine-things that were "Must Haves" on a computer. The dude at Dell was REAL HELPFUL, "kept upgrading my list", $$$ comissions, ha ha...anyway , it cost a pretty penny, but its' cool. Of course I can't operate 95% of the stuff on it. That could be 98 %. Maybe it would be easier to say what I can do ...... LOL.
It came with 2 thick texts which I haven't read. And I ordered one from AOL (which I haven't read.)
I like the radio part of it/selections out the kazoo. and the DVD player is cool.
I spend most of my time researching art on the net, and I can find that , so , what can I say?
I'm sure there's a few others out there who don't know how "to burn", at least I HOPE SO ! It would be kinda embarrassing to be the only person left on the BB that doesn't know how.
So, how about a couple of explanations on what this burning is, and the advantages..besides the obvious (saves $) I know about a couple of burning sites. Thanks

    1) yes, the software comes with directions.
    2) must have a CD burner installed.

It's pretty easy to do, and the program I have that is for windows, guides you thru the process. Kind of mistake proof really.

my kids taught me but now I can burn and rip. First you have to have a cd burner installed then find a website to get the music from. We use gnucleus. Then have fun!!

Burning is transferring info, or music or whatever to a CD using a CD burner, burner program and a blank CD.

I use it to transfer files I don't use often on my PC. I put pics on it, my resume on it, financial records and so on. You can also copy CD's with it. I have a Compaq with a CD player and a CD burner on it. So I can transfer info from one to the other.

If you have a cd burner that came with your Dell it automatically comes with Roxio Easy CD Creator...which is a piece of cake to use. No manuals needed. Good luck.

MusicMatch Jukebox is a free player and very easy to use, just click of a couple of buttons and the CD is burning. It's a bit slow though unless you buy the advanced player which is much faster. Just depends on your patience level.

What CD burner do you have? Just curious.

(I have a total of four including a DVD burner.)

Is there a "best one " to buy? I'm going to the mall tomorrow. And plan to buy a CD burner. Or does my brand (Dell) of computer dictate the kind to buy?

Do you know someone that knows alot about computers? Who will be installing it to your computer?

I think which kind you get will depend more on the OS you're running than the actual brand of computer.

Exactly! And unless you get an external one that hooks up to a USB port, you'll probably have to take your puter in somewhere and have someone install it for you.

LOL ...Oh. I thought it would be an attachment, "a little black box" that I would plug into the back of my computer.
    Thanks for your replies.
    One last question...what's the OS?
