Breast Cancer Awareness Month

  1. i got an email from a friend w/this cute story:

    [font="trebuchet ms"]dear daughters. . .

    as you know, for the past several years, your father has been "flying" a pink bra from the trunk of his car during the month of october. his daily travels take him everywhere from redding to vacaville, roseville and "all parts" between. people are always honking and making motions trying to alert him to the fact that there is a bra hanging from the trunk of his car. no matter if he is on the freeway, in small town traffic, getting out of his car to go in the post office, or a restaurant. . .moving or waiting in traffic, or just parked. . .it's always the same. . . "sir. . .did you know you have a pink bra hanging out of your trunk?" or "hey. . .you gotta bra hangin' outta yer trunk!" his answer is "that's because it's pink october. . .do you know what that is? it's breast cancer awareness month. . .and as a husband and father of three daughters, i do this every year to raise curiosity so i can make people aware." some people catch on immediately when he says it's pink october, some don't "get" it until he gives his little "speech".

    and now the rest of the story. . .

    on monday morning (october 3), he fastened a new pink bra in the trunk of his car and left for vacaville wearing his pink shirt. . .got lots of comments about the bra in the parking lot at headquarters after his meeting. . .even got calls on his cell phone from office staff and other reps asking if someone was playing a joke on him or telling him that there was a pink bra hanging from the back of his car. . .lol. . .

    on tuesday, he drove to redding. . .same kinds of looks, comments, and interest in his "flag". . .

    yesterday, (wednesday), he drove to roseville for meetings . . .while on the way home in commute traffic, he passed thru lincoln and then wheatland. . .as he was leaving wheatland, he noticed in his rear-view mirror that there were flashing lights a ways back in northbound traffic and thought that there must be an accident north of town. . .the lights kept getting closer and cars behind him were pulling over. . .so he pulled over and lo and behold, the officer pulled over behind him! the wheatland police officer got out of his car, walked to the back of it and around to come up the other side and finally cautiously approached dad's car. . .you know how they stand back, lean forward and keep one hand poised on their weapon. . .knocked on the front passenger window of dad's car and when he rolled it down, told dad that city of lincoln police had alerted them of a suspicious vehicle traveling northbound on hwy 65. . .with a bra hanging out of the trunk. . .(lol) about that time, a back-up wheatland city police car pulled up! dad went thru his speech about bca month and pink october, explaining that he has been doing this for several years. first officer asked dad to open his trunk so they could see what was in it and verify that there was no "body" or anything suspect in it! dad pushed the button, the trunk was duly inspected and found "clean". . .officers only comment was "sorry we had to hassle you". . . .and sent him on his way. . .

    he called me laughing so hard that he had a tough time telling what had just happened. . .

    you have to admit, he has a novel approach to educating people about "pink october and breast cancer awareness month" . . .and i'm sure there were a few "pink" faces in the city of lincoln for having put out an "apb" over a pink bra hanging from the trunk of a car passing thru town. . .and i'm also sure that many people were educated last night in both lincoln and wheatland when all was said and done. . .

    and, today, he was "on the road again", "taking care of business" as usual and educating people in the process. . .

    you gotta love a guy like that. . .yes , that's my husband, my friend, and my hero!

    love you,

    mom

    i don't know if it's true or not, i guess i could check snopes, but it's such a great story, i don't want to!!!
