    a haven for extremists
impoverished, factionalized yemen has for years been a haven for wanted muslim extremists and is the ancestral homeland of al-qaida terrorist chief osama bin laden. bin laden enlisted thousands of yemenis to fight alongside the mujahedeen of afghanistan in their u.s.-backed war against an occupation soviet army in the 1980s. many returned when the soviets withdrew, and they are a powerful political force here.

I agree with Suzy K. (It happens now and then.) It was reported that these Americans were killed because they were spreading Christian philosophy. I hope that isn't so. I would hope they would know better than to attempt that in a place like Yemen. At any rate, no American is safe in these places where such extremism is practiced.

We could sure use some American doctors in the USA, couldn't we, now...and just think, these docs probably aren't earning nearly as much as what one in this country brings home.

Ah, but if they moved "back home," they'd probably want more $$ & go out of practice due to the high malpractice rates!

You know I have tried to log on to several on line news services to read this story and the lines are jammed. Glad I could hear a little about it here.

Terrible of course. But I think it's important to remember that these people were killed while doing exactly what they wanted to be doing: helping others. And let's face it, there isn't a place in the world that guarantees your safety.

OH dear, just saw pictures of them. They look like such nice people. Christians believe martyrs go to heaven if they die helping others in the name of their religion. Muslims believe martyrs go to heaven if they die committing murder and mayhem in the name of their religion.

Only ONE was a doctor, and all three were Baptist missionaries working at a Baptist hospital in Yemen according to NBC and CBS.

No Oramar, only Muslim extremists/terrorists believe that. The vast majority of the Muslims in the world do not believe that at all. They are very similar to Christians in that they believe in trying to live by the rules in their "Good Book."

Im so very sorry you believe that way. I do have to correct you upon that , Muslims do not believe that murder and mayhem will allow you to enter the gates of heaven, if anything IT is one of the many things that will get a fast ticket to hell. In the name of religon makes it an even more of an abomination.
What you see on TV and with the Nutjobs that are claiming so much in the name of religon , they are extremists.
It would be like comparing a Good Christan to being an Airian Nation, there is no comparrison, and there is none here with a Muslim and a Muslim extremist. It was a man that had an idea in his head that shot others.

The man who committed this act specifically said he did it to be closer to God. I have heard many other's say this. They believe this because their clerics tell them so. If it is a false belief then someone is not doing enough to correct it.
