Braggarts

  1. People who are always boasting about their personal life, work, income etc...

According to a story in the Grand Rapids Press, the owner of a small foreign car had begun to irritate his friends by bragging incessantly about his gas mileage. So they decided on a way to get some humor out of his tireless boasting, as well as bring it to an end. Every day one of them would sneak into the parking lot where the man kept his car and pour a few gallons of gas into the tank. Soon the braggart was recording absolutely phenomenal mileage. He was boasting of getting as much as 90 miles per gallon, and the pranksters took secret delight in his exasperation as he tried to convince people of the truthfulness of his claims. It was even more fun to watch his reaction when they stopped refilling the tank. The poor fellow couldn't figure out what had happened to his car.

Sounds like an awful lot of trouble to stoop down to someone's level.

Poor fella. I cannot stand those type of people either. What I find best is to just brush them off and avoid them discreetly :chuckle

I do to, but it sure is funny. I have neighbors like that. Awful folk who put so much emphasis on how much material things they own.

I'd love to see a few of them get a comeuppance.

Wasn't there a thread on cosmic justice?

What got me thinking was this person I worked with last week. She just keeps telling us how much dough her sister has, blah, blah, blah. What a perfect husband the sister has...yada, yada. It just gets old. I like to keep personal stuff to myself, especially at work.

Geez, seems like she is living her life through her sister. Bottom line no matter how much dough you have here you are still a mortal and you cannot take it with you when you expire. LOL!

I bet you are like "Ya Callate Chica" LOL!

I know a lot of people like that. I just mostly feel sorry for them. Things are all important. I figure they must be seriously lacking the things that really matter, family and friends.

    Yes I was! LOL

I would do other stuff while this person was yapping away, like go talk to my patients...the ones who were awake at 0300 ...not too many though, as most are post-op and on PCA's , but everytime I'd pass the nurses station, there she was... with 2 or 3 others who were so impressed.

One of my closest friends is like this. She is a really nice person except she is sooooo materialistic - everything is about money and possessions. It's a shame cause I am now trying to avoid her - before she married a guy with big bucks she was a lot nicer :-(
