Born in the 50's

  1. Ok, lets really feel old!! Howdy Doody, Davey Crockett, Nestles Chocolate with the dog puppet, Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans, Go go boots, Nancy Sinatra, The Beatles, Chubby Checker, "pads" with a "belt" asking your friends to walk behind you to see if "you could tell".... Giant hair rollers, or empty beer can rollers, NO blow dryer, Saturday night baths, white lipstick, Love's Lemon cologne, going braless and the "pencil test". the original hip huggers, God why weren't belly rings around when I had a nice flat belly?? the draft, and vietnam, janis Joplin, the Stones, Boonesfarm wine, ripple........the Gremlin car, when hockey players didn't wear helmets. I could go on and on......Oh God now I really feel old. I graduated high school in 1972 for gods sake! Oh well when I look at my yearbook picture, I feel I look better now at 47 than at 17. Any other memories??? This is a blast!!

    Government dried milk powder, and orange juice, to supplement kids' diet. Wartime rationing didn't end 'till 1952 in the UK. Oranges, and more so, bananas were quite exotic!
    Don't mention the sixties though, they say if you remember them, you weren't there!

    Hey Don and BugRN,Been there done it! And proud of it! Remember air raid drills in school? They scared the hell out of me...The cuban missle crisis? I was so scared over that event. Can you imagine what some kids must be going through with the latest current events???

    How 'bout "flower power," love beads, , the Monkees, Sonny and Cher, The invention of the Television, then color TV, John Glenn, the walk on the moon, psychadelic anything and everything, those d@mn tropicana oj cans for hair rollers and then slept in bed with them!!! the hoola hoop, silly putty, When you bought ONE Barbie then bought the outfits separate @ 5 dollars a pop! {{{oooooooh}}} that boones farm ripple wine... Fresca, Tab, cyclamates, troll dolls- musta had 25 of those little critters!
    45's, 8 tracks, GTO's, and this one, the wringer washing machine...I remember my mother rolling the wash thru that wringer! (rollin,rollin,rollin, keep that wringer rollin!!!) Then she got a GE washer...Whoe!!! How bout defrosting the freezer in the "ice box" an all day affair! Anybody else???

    Was bad enough when I saw Paul McCartney on the cover of Modern Maturity magazine, but just recently saw an ad for an Earth,Wind and Fire/Chaka Khan concert sponsored by Viagra!! Talk about feeling old!

    Was thinking the other day about how girls were required to wear dresses to school. How we used to wear a pair of shorts underneath so we could do things like go across the monkeybars without revealing our underwear. And how damn cold it was to stand outside waiting for the bus in winter in a dress so we had to wear pants over our tights and then peel them off as soon as we got to school. And how a group of us were angry at having to do this in 7th grade and made up a petition that we took to the principals office. I think it took another year before they finally changed the dress code though.
