Birth control options...

  1. i needed some opinions on my situation if anyone could help. i am 28 and have been on the pill since i was 20/21. i am married with 2 boys 1 15 moths and the other 3 months. i was always very skinny, i'm 5'9 and wore a size 3/5. i started ortho-cylclen first with some abd cramping and nausea and my dr decided that she would try loovral..same effect. i have occasional ovarian cysts and endometriosis. her next step was to try me on depo provera with the reasoning that it might help control my ovulation and lessening the cysts. i gained 30 pounds! when the shot wore off in 3 months i didn't want to do it again, i was put on ortho tri cyclen with massive bleeding. we switched back to ortho cyclen..another 5 pounds creeped on. i took a break from birth control, i just wasn't feeling well in general, always tired and with in a month dropped 28 pounds. eventually i went back on and the weight creeped on again.
here is my dilemma. while pregnant i gained 65 pounds each time. 30 of which came off immediately in 3 weeks both times and continued to come off slower and i had amazing energy.
ok, here's my question...i am back on ortho cyclen...my appetite within 3 days has increased again and i am feeling tired most of the time. :uhoh21: i am convinced that i cannot do hormones, my appetite is ravenous and i am too tired with 2 babies and from the pill to do any exercise not to mention work and nursing school. it sounds simple enough to just stay on a diet, but if i don't eat every hour 1/2 -2 hours i get very nauseous. :imbar i need to lose 40 more pounds to look healthy (size 8ish). i am very frustrated. does anyone have any insight on what to do or another birth control method that works for them?? any advice would be appreciated. thanks for the help! :roll

My husband and I had to use natural condoms and natural planning methods. I couldn't tolerate hormone BC and for some reason laytex condoms gave me a burning sensation. Natural planning methods take time to get used to and can work if periods are regular and the couple is diligent. I should add that we used the natural condoms every time even if I was 'safe' as my husband used to joke. Good luck.

My oldest daughter is almost 12 and we have used condoms since she was born....except that one time.....my youngest is 6
If there are no condoms....no nookie.....
Someday I will convince my husband to get the big V.
Until then its latex free condoms for us!

I used the IUD in my 20s and 30s. Worked well and was never a problem. Might be an option for you.

I have one too. No hormones made it much easier for me to loose weight. And it's good for ten years. I'm working on year #5 right now. No negative side effects. :hatparty:

i am thinking this is the way i am leaning. can you tell me...is this procedure uncomfortable/painful? does it take a long time? are there any risks? i am sure i can do an internet search but i would rather hear from someone that has been through it...if you don't mind. i just want to be sure before i call my dr. and then change my mind wasting everyone's time.:imbar thanks!

It's very quick to put in. It was a quick, sharp pain when it was placed, then no pain or cramping after that.

I had the kind that releases a tiny amount of hormones, but there are others that don't.

Potential side effects are increased risk of infection (lower if you are monogamous) and risk for injury when it is placed. Risks of either happening are rare, as I remember. I had no problems at all. And it was easy to remove when I wanted children.

I don't take BC anymore and I've never felt so good. Me and my husband use the "film". You can't be spontaneous, but with 2 kids, we have to plan sex anyway.
