Birth control...

  1. What do you use for birth control? How effective is it? Pros/cons?

A girlfriend of mine just went on the patch.

I would stay away from Depo- don't know if it is just me, but one injection and 2 years later, getting recurrent ovarian cysts, irregular periods, unable to concieve. There are a couple of boards on the web regarding the side effects.

wish I woulda stayed on the pill....

I used to be on Ortho, but I got bad headaches from it. Now, I'm on Aleese, but it has screwed up my period and what not. So, now I don't even know what day I'm supposed to start. I get headaches everyday whether I'm on Ortho or not, so I'm going back on that. I really don't trust Aleese, since it has messed up my period so much.

Depo does cause weight gain, and other problems. I don't like shots either, so I would stay away from that.
Hmmm.... whole new world eh Reb?

I don't want anything implanted, and the shots totally screwed things up. Barrier methods, IMHO, suck and ruin the moment. I'm just not that patient. Barrier methods are the reason I'm planning a $500 birthday party for an 8 year old. I prefer the pill. But I've been playing musical pills lately, and can't seem to find one that doesn't give me headaches, only ones that make them less severe.

Actually, my most ideal form of bc would be a tubal, but my doc is making me wait awhile before she'll cave in on that one.

And you know, the hubby has heard one exaggerated story of the after effects of a vasectomy, so that's out of the question

    Good luck!

I'm on Depo & love it Can't even remember when my last real period was. I've had some weight gain, but it's hard to determine what's depo & what's school so I'm not to concerned about where it's coming from right now (fluctuates 10-15 over past 2 yrs.)
Thankfully no bad side effects for me, my friend had to switch since she had continuous spotting that made her insane Everybody's different!

I thought I was the only one lmao!

I'm a simple gal - BCP's all the way. Every night after nookie is the cue for the old man to ask me if I remembered to take my pill lol. Before I took the pill, my time only came around once every 3-4 months. Gosh, I miss that!

I've thought about other options - depo, patch, norplant - but hubby's hard and fast rule is "Don't screw with the hormones." The man has a point.

And while I'd like to get away from the artificial hormones, I don't trust the approx 88% success rate of condoms (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that stat.) Plus, I kinda like my wicker trash basket.

Getting him fixed would be nice, but it's a man thing...

I mean, wouldn't that be the best part about BEING a lesbian? (I saw some recruiting pamphets recently, and it was definitely in the top ten...) :chuckle
