BIL just lost his job.....

  1. I just found out that my BIL lost his job. What a rotten thing to happen at Christmas time! The sad part is my BIL will probably have a hard time finding another job d/t his educational status. He is what you would call "a little slow." And no, I am not saying that in a mean way. He definitely had trouble in school and stuff. From what I can understand when he was born he went without O2 too long during the birthing process and he suffered some consequences. He is a hard worker, and usually works as a janitor or some similar position. He lost his a previous job this summer after massive wide layoffs at the plant that he had been at for thirty years. Then, when he found another job with another factory in town, we were thrilled. Now, 6 months later that has fallen through. He also carries the health insurance for his family, so that is a big issue. My SIL has some major health issues (such as diabetes, morbid obesity) that would make it tough for her to qualify for some health care plans. Why does it seem like this kind of stuff always happens at holiday time?

    Hi Dee,

I really feel for you and your BIL. I have been there, and lucky for me, it was just me and my husband, no little ones to take care of. But it was still scary and a really rotten thing to go through.

The company my mum works for, and the one that I was laid off from, just laid off a ton more people. This cycle of layoffs has been going on for over 2 years. People that I used to work for have been out of work for over a year and have not even found a single good lead or interview.

I hope everything works out for him. They always say that God never closes a door without opening a window, unfortunately, in this economic climate God can't always open the window shortly after closing the door. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Your family will be in my prayers.

Dee I feel so bad for BIL and his family... why is that companies can't hold off on layoff's till after the 1st of the year! Jeez at least one can enjoy the holidays without this stuff hanging over thier head.

This must be very hard on him! Ugh.. my heart aches for him... I just hate when stuff like this happens...

I will certainely keep him in my prayers.... and Colleen said it very well "God never closes a door without opening a window"

Dee I am so sorry to hear this...truly sad news. I know what you mean...the holidays are the worst time to lose a job---no good time, but something about Christmas making it a real kick in the pants.

How about trying for a school district janitor position or hospital. They don't seem to have layoffs. Many persons in my area appear to be retiring in these positions recently. Just a thought.

My brother has been laid off since August. That is the same brother whose wife died a year ago. It has occured to me that in the old days he would have had his wife's benefits and income to see he and his sone thru this. Last night I went to a Mary Kay demonstration. The presenter was a unemployed engineer. She was about 5 months pregnant when the pink slip came so she is selling Mary Kay to tide her over untill after the baby is born. She said her husband was still an engineer with the company she got laid off from because he had more senority than her.
