besides nursing, do you have a side business?

  1. how many of the nurses here are consultants for "make money at home" product lines, like Pampered Chef or Mary Kay?

i've noticed a lot of the nurses i've worked with seems to be into selling these kinds of products in their spare time... whether it be Mary Kay, PartyLite, scrapbooking stuff or Pampered Chef, every floor i've worked on seems to constantly be bombarded with consultants throwing parties to sell their wares...

is this common, or just a local thing?

ETA: sorry, i meant to post this in the Break Room section... could someone move it for me?

I sell Avon on the side.

In PA, it seemed to be much more common. While one can always find a Pampered Chef or Avon catalog about if one looks, it's not as pervasive here.

I'm debating on selling Party Lite once I start my Nursing program that way I can set my own schedule. But I've also been debating teaching aerobics....can't decide, but I have a couple of friends who do Party Lite and Scrapbooking on the side and make decent money (and not to mention free stuff) from doing this.

Two of my good friends that are nurses have businesses on the side, one sells Stampin Up, and the other sells Mary Kay....they get lots of business from co-workers in the hospital too! :hatparty:

I don't think I could. I don't have a salesperson bone in my body (I even have trouble helping my kid find people - family members! - to approach when he has things to sell or mail out for his school! eek!)

I do photography on the side. I do weddings, pregnant-mom sittings, couples, and families...specializing in black and white. I look at it more as a hobby, but it pays pretty well, not to mention it is as far from nursing as you can get. I would hate of have a second job in the medical field...I would burn out of nursing pretty fast.

Besides nursing, I help run a "side business" with my wife. But it has nothing to do with Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc. . .

We own/run a small production company which can be very time consuming.

Here's to the success of all our "side businesses"!

I've been known to hawk Tupperware @ times.

I didn't think I could sell anything until I had a kid involved in activities that needed $$, so I've sold candy, wrapping paper, 'ski-a-thons', 'ride-a-thons', coupon books, Boy Scout popcorn, Christmans wreaths (also Boy Scouts) and other stuff I can't remember any more--just as well.

We had so many moms @ work, we all bought stuff from each other to support each others' kids activities--you buy wrapping paper from me, and I'll buy Girl Scout cookies from you.

I have absolutely no time to do anything like that. Well, maybe I have the time, but NOT the energy!!! LOL

I have a side business which I have had for more than two years now. More like a hobby now. I design and paint floorcloths, canvas window murals, canvas wall murals and minature paintings. I had a website for almost a year, plus sold items at Saturday Market. Then I got hooked on selling on ebay. Still doing that. LOVE ebay.... Make enough extra money to keep up my hobby.
