Been To Las Vegas?

  1. Has anyone been to Las Vegas before? I'm planning on celebrating a friends B-Day there the end of September, however, I have NO CLUE as to where to stay, what I should expect to spend, what to do and so on.

    Any suggestions?

(I asked VegasRn....Her PM box is full! hahahahaha)

    Thanks for your feedback!

Vegas is my second home and I grew up there.

My first choice of hotels is The Mirage or Bellagio. 5 star resorts with fabulous ammenities.

Excalibur is cheap but too "kid" oriented, and not the best service.
Mandalay Bay is too far on the end of the strip.

Luxor is also nice, but not the best location and it's coolness wears out quickly. They do have a good buffet and is the home to Blue Man Group.

MGM - too big and expensive.

NewYorkNewYork: is ok, but too crowded.

Bally's is mediocre, as is The Sahara, Circus Circus I would NOT recommend.

    Desert Inn is very classic.

The Aladdin just remodeled so I would not know. Is a mainstay of the strip - one of the originals.

Paris is nice, as is the Venetian, but you might as well stay at Mirage.
Monte Carlo is not as nice as you would think for the price.

My top choices: Mirage, or Bellagio, if tight on funds stay at Treasure Island.

    Hope this helps.

Stay at the Bellagio. You'll love it. We saw Wayne Newton when we were there!. I know he is old and kind of corny, but what a show! "Daddy don't you walk so fast" always makes me cry!

Suzy K...Thanks!..Your information helps a lot. I especially like your advice on location. I like to be close to a lot, but not in the middle or too far away. I thought about Mandalay, since it boasts of the "spa" experience. (Or is that Belagio?).

What do you think about The Stratosphere. Seems like a no-flash place to stay, which wouldn't bother me, but I don't want to stay there if its a dive.....

Spa atmosphere I think is the Mirage. Very lush and tropical. The actual spa inside is to DIE FOR. Truly first class with all Aveda products!

Mandalay Bay is somewhat "tropical" but Mirage beats it hands-down.
Stratosphere is also on the waaaayyy other end. Meh. There's a nice Italian restaurant there but not worth the hoop-la.

    Hmmm...Mirage? Hmmm.....

Also considering $$$$. I'm not on an ultra-tight budget, but I'm also not going for broke over a three day visit.

Also, Mirage is connected to Cesear's Palace very easily, which has the Forum Shops - everything you need to shop. Mirage itself has some nice boutiques; I've gotten a few nice little skirts and such there.

Bellagio same thing: Tiffany's, Gucci (where I got my Gucci watch from hubby).

Either one of those places. I would definitely stay there.
Mirage is my favorite. The lounge under the skylights and waterfalls is sooooo secluded and quiet, very nice, you just fall away from reality and listen to the band.....

We've stayed at Mirage for $75/night sometimes. Check the special rates. Bellagio is much more expensive. So....price out Mirage and Bellagio - and compare, if tight on funds, again, I would stay at Treasure Island - right next to Mirage and you'll get the benefit of being able to book tickets to Mirage shows, etc.

After living there for many years, I try to stay off the strip when I go there. So to that end, I normally stay at the RIO. Off strip, but not so far away to make it a chore to go there.
Besides, you will have to go to the Rio anyways for the buffet, or the seafood buffet (which is pricey, but worth every penny)

See now Bob I didn't really like the seafood buffet. I mean it was good, but not as good as all the talk was about it.

The buffet too, there was ALOT of food CHOICES, but the quality was lacking I thought.

I did like the Mardi Gras though.
