Baghdad's maternity hospital hit in airstrike killing one civilian

  1. A Red Crescent maternity hospital in Baghdad's Mansour area - along with the nearby trade center complex and offices housing the Pharmacist and Teachers' Union were hit by at least three missiles on Wednesday in American and British airstrikes.

Reports said a driver was found burned to death inside his vehicle near the clinic and a total of 10 patients and staff were injured at the hospital in the attack which took place at 0630 GMT.

Al-Jazeera television broadcast footage of the destruction at the clinic which showed damaged rooms, broken windows and a sign with the name of the clinic.

"The ceiling fell on us. Glass and debris cut through many patients and staff members. Most of the patients here were pregnant women but they were taken to other hospitals," Dr Mohammad Ibrahim told reporters.

The US Central Command said it was looking into the reports that its aircraft bombed the maternity hospital.

Reports said the trade center lies next to a government security building, which was apparently missed in the bombings.

Baghdad came under heavy bombardment on Wednesday as American ground troops pressed on toward the capital from the west and east with reports saying they are within 30 kilometres of the city from the south.

I always find these reports so interesting.

We apparently hit a hospital with three missiles, yet only one civilian, in his car is dead.

Seems like we are bombing at night so people will not be at work. Every attempt is being made to protect innocent civilians. Fear and logical distrust as well as human error cause the tragedies.
That is little comfort to the family of the dead man.

Seems Al- Jazeera is reporting honestly. Too bad Iraq wants them out.

Disclaimer, I said "seems like" because I am not an expert on anything military. My VA patients get a few chuckles because I cannot remember the ranks of the various branches. I tell them they are all VIPs to me.
If ,God forbid, you have an MI, open heart surgery, cardiogenic shock I am a good nurse for you.

Is the inference that Al-Jazeera is not a reliable news source? Like say, Dan Rather? http://www.ratherbiased.com/

Definitely! I have never been a fan of Dan Rather. Ever. But I do prefer him over Peter Jennings.

Is there a parallel you are trying to make here?
  10. by Q.
No, no parallel. I'm being sarcasmic. I don't find Al-Jazeera credible at all. That's all.

    Hussein's son owns Al-Jazeera.

Iraq is trying to throw Al- Jazeera out. The station is run by Qatar, our ally who built the USA an airbase.
Is there a connection with SH and his sons? Could be I certainly don't know everything.
I meant that they could have interviewed a spokesman for the SH regime who would tell untruths that could be portrayed as true.

Whoops - sorry - my mistake. His son owns a radio station or some crap.

    Hussein's son owns Al-Jazeera.
    Didn't realize that, Susy...

Knowing that makes me if wonder if Bush owns Fox.

OOPS...so it's not true...so hard to keep up on what's what. But, that IS what we are talking about, right?
