Baby Girl is Sick..

  1. For the last 2 days, baby girl has had "cold" like symptoms - sore throat, low-grade fever, malaise. Then, this rash broke out on her neck and arms. Mommy nurse gave her some Benadryl. By the second day, and no response to the Benadryl, took her to the Pediatrician. Throat cultures came back this morning. Diagnosis?

    Scarlet Fever

Gotta go get Amoxicillin and keep her out of school today. Bummer. I have not missed any time from work this year, but, Baby Girl needs her Mommy.
My Mom told me I had it BAD when I was about 4. Spiked temps something awful where she was putting me in a tub of alcohol and ice (I remember that!) and the rash was so bad my feet were peeling and bleeding. Baby girl's isn't bad as this at all, but she will definitely have some peeling around her neck.

hmmm, wonder what time Oprah comes on...

It's worse when your kid is sick than when you're sick, isn't it? This will respond quickly to abx. No DOUBT you remember the cold bath! Whooooo

Awww shucks...this is awful news..! My daughter also had scarlet fever...but I have never had it. I'm glad you're there with her, and work will just have to do without today...and as long as she isn't well. My daughter's case was very mild, and it was a long time ago. But I do remember how it is to have your baby sick.. Take good care of you both...and I pray she is well and giving you heck in no time...

WOW ! I didn't know people still caught that ! It is very contagious and has the potential to be VERY dangerous. Sometimes pneumonia and/or strep throat will accompany it.

Before anti-biotics, it was a major cause of death in children, wiping out whole families. Thank the Good Lord for these times we live in.

I'd keep her in and quiet for at least a swimming, movies, etc.
Hope you and the mini-you are doing well! I hate it when the kids are sick! I'd rather be sick.

Hugs & well wishes to you both!

    Las Vegas Nurse,

I sure hope that Emma feels better soon. Thank goodness for antibiotics. Hugs to you both. It's rough to have a sick child.

Thanks, all!!! She has been quite cranky all day - very upset that she is not at school ("Mommy, they are having fun and I'M NOT THERE!!). I don't recall ever having that attitude about staying home from school! I hope she keeps it!
Thank you so much for your prayers and good wishes. :kiss Picked up some Eucerin cream for the rash - she has alligator skin with this rash and it is really going to peel something awful soon.
prn nurse - you aren't kidding, Thank God for living in these times, I can't imagine what people went through when antibiotics were not around!
