Autumn challenged !!!! Are the Aspen trees turning gold yet?? Russ et al??

  1. I'm ready for fall too. Our family is planning and has planned all this year for a driving trip thru New Mexico and all over Colorado. I hopefully have timed it to see the Aspen trees in their golden glory ! I read they peak for only two weeks.

How are the San Juan's in your neck of the woods, Rusty?

Aspen trees are supposed to be unique in the tree world for the way the leaf attaches....they swing in the wind unlike other tree leaves....or so I read anyway. Maybe that was just a travel poster pitch.... LOL

See, learn something new every day on Allnurses....

We're leaving Sept. 26... how does that sound to you lucky folks in tree country?

The Aspens are starting to turn their golden color. I was up in the high country last weekend and Fall was in the air.
    The big news:
It snowed today! It was raining all day down here and when I picked my son up from school I looked up to the Mts. and total white!
Looks like a nice cold Winter this year.

I was just in the mountains last weekend (Colorado). The Aspens were just beginning to turn. You're timing should be right on.

    What a gorgeous picture !!

I think anyone who stands & breathes that "clear mountain air" and watches the aspen leaves shimmer in the breeze is awestruck by the overwhelming perfection of the experience .

They say -- because of the unique way the leaf attaches---
that aspens resemble melting gold.....shimmering in the sunlight.

    Thanks for the photo.

P.S. I think the lady who wrote "America the Beautiful" was visiting the Pike's Peak area and I'm sure she was also inspired by golden aspens shimmering.

Hi, I live in Alaska (moved here from the western slope of Colorado )and the trees here are breathtaking right now. Snow in on top of the mountains and we all have on our snow tires..It is like living in a snow globe. Enjoy

prn nurse: I just drove the I70 road that goes through the middle of the state through Breckenridge, Vail, etc.. YOU will be right on with the leaves turning. There was just a hint of yellow to them when I drove through last week.

It did snow in the high country. Vail got 6 inches yesterday.

Enjoy your trip. I will take some pics next week (my camera is 2 home and I am in Colorado today but will return next week.

We are taking a pleasure trip to South Dakota this weekend. I will be happy to share photos of the trip.

The Aspens are called "quacking aspen" because of how they flutter in the wind. It is lovely.. purple mountains magesty it is!

Enjoy your trip and I would love to hear how it went.

When you drive through Northern NM you must try the green chile. You will probably smell some roasting through the country side and there will be red chile ristras dangling on porches... it makes me homesick. We will be going down to Albuquerque in a couple of weeks... sigh...
That is an absolutely breathtaking photo WashYaHands! Thank you for posting it! I just love driving down winding tree-lined roads in the fall! And I can't wait to mess up my hubby's first big pile of blown leaves!
