Automatic or stick shift?

  1. Last night my 17 y/o son bought himself a new used car at the car auction with the help of my husband. He got himself a georgeous car and I'm so jealous! Jimmy took $1200 with him and bought a 1993 Saturn with everything in it and a sunroof! It's color is a matallic maroon with hidden headlights and had 103,000 miles on it. (last night) He says, "It's a chick magnet." I want to drive it so badly, BUT it's a stick shift. I used to drive a stick about 20 years ago when my husband taught me on his little Mitsubisi truck. Drove it for about three days and then he sold it. If I want to drive this car, I'll have to learn all over again. I really don't want to embarrass myself in front of him, but I just might have to. So which do you prefer a automatic or a stick?

LOVE to drive a stick shift, but since most are smaller cars, it's not practical with 3 kids. lol

Automatic... I don't see why anyone would want to have to go through all the trouble of shifting... Just put it in drive and GO

I prefer automatic, but used to drive a jeep in the military. An E-6 took me out in the woods and taught me. I threw him everyway but loose..:chuckle. Haven't drove one since as I prefer to not have to worry about shifting either! Especially driving in places like Seattle where the streets are steeply inclinded. Too scary!

Sounds like your son got a great car! I'm looking for my daughter one, and hadn't thought about going to an aution to get one. Good idea though! How's the engine??

Love driving a stick, but they are a real pain when you have to drive them in town so i stick with an automatic but have made sure all the kids know how to drive a stick much to thier dismay.

Stick. My kids have to learn to drive Totanka Blanca before they can drive anything else.
(For those who don't know Totanka she is a 3/4 ton long bed crew cab F-250.)

If you can learn to drive a stick, you can drive ANYTHING. I am glad I learned both actually. and now, I own one of each..a mustang gt stick and an automatic SUV. works for me.

Definitely stick! I just bought a new car this month -- brand new, with five speed manual!.

It's much more practical to pretend that you are Mario Andretti if you have a clutch underfoot.

I have a manual car, not too keen on automatics, I still keep trying to change gears in them

Stick, especially when I lived in place with 7 months of snow. I drive both now.
