Australian residents (I need your help)

  1. Hi,

I won a vase on ebay and the seller is from Australia. It said the winning price was AU$11.00. When I got the invoice from the seller, they said to send $20.95.

I went to the bank to get a money order and the bank told me that our money orders do not cash there. So, I sent $21.00 in cash.

Does American $ cash there? I apologize in advance for my stupidity!

    Isn't anyone here from Australia?

Not sure if I can help.
It sounds like you sent American dollars, did you? if so, the exchange rate is different. Did you tell the seller that you were sending American dollars as they will have to pay to get the money changed into Australian dollars, can't remember how much they charge but maybe the difference in exchange rate will take care of that.
    Good Luck

I sent money overseas several times in the form of an international money order. Walmart sells them but alot of sellers do not want to take them due to the cost to cash/process them. I have gotten several to okay the money order by putting an extra amount in to cover that. I have tried twice to send hided cash in the mail for ebay items and mysteriously the money never arrived. No way for me to prove otherwise unless you send an international package with a signed return receipt from the post office.

Time to get a "Paypal" account.

The seller just got a windfall as our exchange rate is usually less in other words at the moment it is about 70 cents australian to 1 US dollar

You got the "Royal Screw"----check out exchange rates before sending money. They can accept a US cashier's check any where in the world.

That person is quite happy, the price should have been about $7 US currency.
What did they charge you for the shipping?

Russell, I'm afraid to get a paypal account. I've heard so many horrible stories.

    Suzanne4,The shipping rate was $4.50?

    Thanks for the help people!

Go under where it says US Dollar and take the average of those prices.
You can also just go to CNN and go under the travel section to get their conversion tables. May be a little easier for you. Right now: $1 AUSTRALIAN is equal to about $0.70 US.

Most places do not pay extra for cashing of a cashier's check around the world payable in US dollars. It may take a few extra days to clear but that
is about it. They were just giving you the run-around.............

Hope that you like the vase!

I can NEVER figure out the exchange rates, either. I live close to the us/mexico border and I see signs everywhere saying "acceptamos pesos" but I never know what the rate is.

Exchange rates fluctuate on a daily basis. You just have to check the listings. The rate can also vary if it is not regulated by the government like it is here in Thailand. No matter which bank thatr you go to, they all have the same rate. The hotels of course give you a poorer exchage.

    Hope that this helps.....
