Avoid carbs like the plague.
Drink lots of water.

Jul 12, '03Has anyone heard of the South Beach diet? I just got something in the mail about it this week. Supposely, you can lose 13# in 2 weeks with belly fat coming off first! Of course, they want you to buy the book. Just wondered if anyone knows anything about it!
I have tried to lose some weight and get to a certain point, then no more weight loss. It's like I get stuck at a certain weight and can't get passed it. Since I have a freezer full of meat, the Adkins diet sound pretty good to me. We butcher our own livestock. May have to try it!
Jul 13, '03Russell, have you checked out any recipes at Atkins for sweets? I know how you feel though . . . I worked today (3 a.m to 3 p.m) and then watched my daughter's softball team play in a tournament, then watched while my husband umpire a boy's game which took forever. Afterwards we went for mexican food. I had a great fajita salad . .. chicken and lettuce and avocado and sour cream and hardly any carbs. It was hard not to eat the chips and salsa and then my family had ice cream for dessert. I was craving something sweet . . just ate 1/2 of a protein bar. Stress and fatigue makes you crave stuff that isn't good for you.
Wondering how many other people use those urine ketone strips the check if they are in "ketosis" yet? I'm purple . . . that's good.
Off to bed so I don't eat that other half of that dry but chocolatey protein bar.

Russell- Have you tried those Atkins candy bar things? My SIL eats them. Snickers it ain't , but it might help.

....but it's always disgusting how fast guys lose weight, compared to us women! Our metabolism is against us....

I finally got started on it yesterday, after 2 days of really bad headaches (probably triggered by some really violent weather changes here in Canuck land....gone from 94 degrees F last week to the mid-fifties this week!) I figured a sudden change in diet wasn't going to do the poor head much good.
Today will be my first full day on it. Wish me luck...I'm craving carbs already!
(okay, I cheated a bit last night, and had some ice cream...Swiss Chalet had a special of quarter chicken, salad and Haagen Daz icream bar for dessert....mmmmmm!!)
