ARGH! What should I do??

  1. OK, Since everyone seems to give awesome advice on this BB, I'm going to ask! I just recently moved to the San Francisco area as a travel nurse and I am 28 female and single! As just about everyone I talk to, meeting people for dates is not easy! I'm itching to get out and meet some ppl have a fun evening etc. I found this website about "hurrydate" I've done something similar and it really was a good time, the thing is tonight! and it's about an hour from where I'm at, im actually near san jose and this is in SAN FRAN! EEK THE CITY! I so want to go to the city, and this would be a good excuse to do that, right??? So why don't i just sign up and go tonight, I'm off, i have nothing better to do! I'm excited at the thought of it, but do i really want to drive to this?? TELL ME WHAT TO DO!

My other thought was karaoke, which i really enjoy, and i found several places to go, but i've never gone by myself will i like retarded? will everyone think i'm pathetic, will i make a friend to talk to??

San Fran is 50+% gay. You have a better chance of meeting a woman to date than a man.

LOL, good point, BUT, this thing that im thinking of going to, is arranged so that you meet the opposite sex and talk to them for 3 minutes each then see if you match and you can talk to them is the website

and are you from San Fran or have you been to San Fran???

Actually, Shelley, my advice is to try online dating services. Seriously! That's how I met my wife -- through Love @AOL.

Only good thing that AOL ever did for me.

A girlfriend of mine did the speed dating thing and is trying to talk me into going with her next time. She had a much better time than she expected--said it was a lot fo fun, even though she only met a couple of "maybes."

I say go. What's the worst that can happen? Like Gomer said, your chances of meeting a straight guy by chance in San Fran--statistically, not as good as, say, Texas or Alaska.

Come back and tell us how it went.

hehe, i have tried the online dating thing......ive had my profile on various sites for quite some time......and while it's fun to do, it's just not getting out on the town ya know what i mean?? i figure this is a safe way to have a fune vening out....i've been to one similar before, back in Kansas City, it was a lot of fun but i didn't meet im seriously thinking im going to go....i figure why not!!!!!???

sit back relax and just get out there , do things you enjoy and you never know what might happen... u can meet an amazing person in any number of places, the grocery store, laundry mat , the local strip club (errrr disregard that one!) , and yes even *Gasp* the internet...
its frustrating to be single sometimes , but really it does depend on how you look at it , big difference between being alone and lonely - as someone who dabbles in both from time to time I can tell you that I have cursed my singlehood on more than one occasion but then I realized that I would rather meet one interesting, funny, smart , person and get to know him than go on 50 lousy dates with guys who just are not what I'm looking for
so from one single girl to another, keep the faith, fight the frustrations and have fun, that is after all the point right?
enjoy life, hopefully find someone to enjoy the ride with etc etc
good luck , I'm sure "he" is out there , somewhere, and hopefully not a gazillion miles away (@!!$%^#^*&&)) <--- cursing distance in addition to all the other factors that keep ppl away from eachother

Hey wendy thanks for the tips, and I totally agree, what a great outlook.....I was just itching for an adventure tonight, that's all.....still might do the karaoke thing! I'm feeling brave!

if you seek adventure , go for it, karaoke it up!
who knows , someone somewhere could be watching and become mesmorized by your sexy rendition of dancing queen
(that song seems to get massacred by karaoke a fair bit I've noticed!)

    Hi Shelly,

I have made the drive from San Jose to San Fran. and I'm even from PA! I didn't think it was that bad of a drive, so I wouldn't be nervous about the drive itself. Especially if the weather is good.

Personally, I loved San Jose! Thought is was one of the most awesome cities I've ever been to. Much nicer than San Fran. Hope you aren't disappointed if you go. San Fran was nice but it is cold and windy and it smells funny. The weather in San Jose is much more agreeable with me.

I have heard about those "Hurry Dates". Never done one, since I'm married, but it does sound like an interesting ice breaker.

What section of San Fran is this at?

Let us know if you do go. Could be an interesting evening!
