Anyone having problems with allergies now?

  1. Hi all,

My allergies have been terrible for the past 2 weeks, I am currently taking Allegra and it just isn't helping anymore. Claritin doesn't work either, any suggestions? I have a Dr. appt. on friday and hope to get some relief, my eyes look like I am constantly crying, runny nose, sneezing. I feel fine except that I need my box of puffs whereever I go. Does anyone know of any new allergy med I could ask the Dr. for? Thanks for any help.

Have you ever tried Claritin with cimetidine. Apparently the cimetidine increases the potency of the Claritin.

A couple of yrs ago I had a nasty reaction which became generalised to include rash aswell, this combination was prescribed and it was fantastic

    Good luck

I am currently on Zyrtec. It seems to help me, but the only problem I hate about it, it makes me really sleepy. So, I take it at nighttime. I am having alot of problems with allergies this time go around.

I also have been having bad asthma attacks lately from allergies. I went to the dr on Saturday, and he wanted to direct admit me. But I told him that I did not want to spend Christmas in the hospital. You might want to ask about this medicine. Hope you feel better. Hissy:O)

Nothing works for me but prednisone. I hate to take that. Dust and mold. I always get bad once you close the house up and turn on the furnace. Another reason I want to move somewhere I don't have to use heat much.

Yes, my allergies are bothering me too. When you have both indoor and outdoor allergies, it is hard to get relief any time of the year...

I take Zyrtec-D and use Nasonex. It really seems to help me. Do you have a air cleaning filter on your furnace? It is helpful. Plus, I have an air purifier in my room. I suppose you know all about washing your sheets in hot water to kill dust mites and such. Best of luck...

I have year round allergies and take medication daily. Flonase Nasal Spray and Allegra. Was taking Zyrtec which I loved and it didn't make me drowsy but my new insurance won't cover Zyrtec only Allegra so I switched two months ago! Damn HMO's!!!!!!!!!

Claritin is now available otc so until your Doc appt, give the Claritin/cimetidine combo a try as both are OTC.

    Good luck!

P.S.--Buy Kleenex with Lotion tissues--they are the best and easy on the nose! Better than Puffs Plus w/lotion!

I'm terribly upset that Claritin is now OTC....so expensive!!! I have to switch to something else...Allegra doesn't work for me. Used to be on something that started with an 'S' a long time ago but they took it off the market. Grrr...all the good stuff that works gets taken away or made unaffordable....
