Any "Horsey" Nurses Here?

  1. I'm just curious if there are any other horse loving nurses out there? Since no one where I work is into horses (well, there was a person who was into horses-an office manager-and she was fired last summer), and the people I know who are into horses have no idea about nursing, it can be pretty lonely.

I have several horses and my 9 yr. daughter is a total horse freak.
We like to go on trail rides and do activities with the local saddle club.

Just wondering if I'm a freak or what???

I used to, BK (Before Kids). I rode up until month 5 of my pregnancy, but stopped as I didn't feel my skills were quite what they should be in order to ride while PG. I took it up after that child was born, and when I became pregnant again in a year, I decided to sell my horse ($$ and time concerns, as I was working f/t and taking call every third week). I do miss it. I rode a liver chestnut appy, took English (dressage) lessons, and rode trail as well. He was an "honest" 15 1/2 hands and had nice, solid hooves (good for riding here, which has lots of rocks). Keeping a horse and riding was a LOT of work but VERY enjoyable. Where we live is a good place to have horses, too, as one can pretty much ride year-round, just adjusting the times of riding according to the temps/light. We didn't have an enclosed, lit arena, but two of the arenas were lit. Dressage ring wasn't.

Freak?? Nah. Love the smells of hay, horses, leather . . .

I would love to have horses someday. Since I was a child I have enjoyed riding. If I can ever afford to, I'd love to own some. No, you're not a freak.

i have early childhood memories of watching cowboy movies.
when i saw a horse getting hurt, i cried my eyes out.
the cowboy getting hurt, didn't phase me-just the horses.

if i had the land, money & time, i would own a ranch filled w/horses.

I was a cowgirl way before I was a nurse.
I worked on a Quarter horse ranch. I did it all, checked mares, we had 2 studs, raised the babies, halter/lead broke the babies, later broke them to ride. etc.
My dd has a horse, but I haven't really been able to be incolved with that. It is at her fathers, which is an hour away. Plus having the little ones to juggle.
I would love to get back into the country someday and have horses again.
