Any JAZZ Lovers in the house?

  1. i woke up this morning around 0330 and couldn't go back to sleep, so i turned on the t.v. in flipping through the various channels, i came across the mtv channel, and heard the most dynamite voice i've heard in a long time singing what sounded like a mix of jazz/country/blues. her name is norah jones....a 22 year young beauty who is not only pleasing to look at, but very pleasing to hear sing, too.

after i went to the movie to see "my big fat greek wedding", i was feeling in a "bluesy/jazzy/country" kind of way, so i stopped at the store and purchased norah jones' new cd titled "come away with me".....which by the way is # 1 on the jazz charts this week.

i came home, popped it into the cd player, and listened to it over and over and over. the first song on the cd is the song i heard her singing on mtv very early this morning. the song is titled "don't know why". that song struck a chord in my heart since my marriage is in need of a healing right now. here are the words of that song, and if anyone can find the link to listen to it from this website, please post it so others can hear it, too. thanks! :kiss

i waited 'til i saw the sun
    i don't know why i didn't come
i left you by the house of fun
    i don't know why i didn't come
    i don't know why i didn't come

when i saw the break of day
i wished that i could fly away
instead of kneeling in the sand
    catching teardrops in my hand

my heart is drenched in wine
but you'll be on my mind
    forever

    out across the endless sea
    i would die in ecstasy
but i'll be a bag of bones
    driving down the road alone

my heart is drenched in wine
but you'll be on my mind
    forever

something has to make you run
    i don't know why i didn't come
i feel as empty as a drum
    i don't know why i didn't come
    i don't know why i didn't come
    i don't know why i didn't come.

Here, here, hubby and I are great JAZZ fans!
I love Nora Jones, she's so young, but her voice is so very "ripe" (know what I mean by that I hope) for jazz.
I also love Diana Krall, she is something else, not only her voice is awsome, but her playing on the piano too!!

Norah and Diana rule. I love Diana Krall's version of Peel Me A Grape. I have all her CDs.

Hey......I saw Diana Krall's new CD next to Norah Jone's new CD, but had no idea Diana Krall was so good. Guess I'll make another trip to the store for Diana Krall's new CD today sometime. Thanks for letting me know she's also worth my dollars. :chuckle :kiss

I have listened to Norah's CD so much, I may need a new one before I leave TX in a couple weeks. :chuckle

My husband and I are huge jazz fans.

We love Brian Setzer orchestra, Diana Krall, Stan Getz and John Coltrane.

Naturally, my favorite of all time is Sinatra.

I've always liked Frank Sinatra too, Susy. His voice is so soothing to listen to. I like voices that soothe when they talk or sing. :kiss

Hey, but Robbie Williams did very well, singing Frankie's songs, didn't he?
What about Billie Holiday, when I am really blue, she's still the best!
My husband is more into instrumental jazz, not the avantgarde-stuff, but Count Basie and Glenn Miller, the "easy listening"
And he likes his Cuban friends from "Buena Vista Social Club"

I went out and bought the two newest CDs by Diana Krall today, and really like them for their soothing quality. Good music to read and relax with. :kiss

I also bought the first CD of The American Idol kids. Great CD!!! Wow!!! Kellie Clarkson sounds just like she's been professionally singing for YEARS now!!! Love that voice of hers!

    Hi Renee!

I've been on a loooong vacation/soul search...sorry to bug out without warning...just got back and saw your name and had to say hi. So...how ya been girlfriend?

I LUV R & B and jazz. My brother plays jazz trumpet professionally and he tells me he is the 'real' jazz man... he's into improv...which I honestly don't understand and can't get into (but I can't hurt his feelings and say that to him.....hehe)

Also luv bluegrass...Allison Krause my favorite.

I'll check out Nora and Diana's CD's... sounds like I'd enjoy them both.

    Hello to you too mattsmom!

I'm holding my own.....God's got my back, my front, the middle, the top, the bottom, and everything within me.....so, I can't lose there, right?

I hope you are feeling more uplifted since your time away, and that you are back to stay with us here at our favorite place to be. :kiss

As your quote says "Surviving has meant being born over and over." (Erica Jong)

I'd tend to agree with that 100%. We never stop evolving.....even when we wish to stop......life just keeps coming at us. :chuckle

Love you back! Have a great night's rest tonight, and we'll chat more tomorrow.
