Any Barry Manilow fans on board?

  1. Did anyone happen to see the Barry Manilow Special the other night? It was sooooooo refreshing to hear his wonderful and melodic voice again for an entire hour! I sang along with Barry the entire hour, and the feeling in my heart was wonderful at show's end. He is a wonderful entertainer, singer, personality to know, and true people person. Great all around guy - IMHO.

What's your favorite Barry Manilow song? One of my favorites is: I Made It Through The Rain. I sang it as a duet with a guy at an Amway Convention many moons ago. I also like "I Write The Songs That Make The Whole World Sing...." Ah heck, I like anything Barry sings! :kiss

Barry Manilow puts on a great show. Many years ago, a girlfriend (with deep pockets!) wanted to see him in concert so badly, didn't want to go alone, so she paid for my ticket. Maybe I should have been ashamed to have someone do that, but I couldn't see forking out oodles of cash to see him. Now, Barbra Streisand or Billy Joel? :imbar

OK, not a Barry fan here. But my mom has a tape of me, when I was like 3 or 4 maybe, singing "looks like we made it" (I don't even know if that's really the name or not, I just keep saying that part over and over)

She used to blackmail me with it during my heavy metal big hair phase.

I grew up with barry manilow music. Some of my earliest memories of alarm clocks, and getting up for the 6th grade, was his music. Also there was dolly parton and karen carpender.

cobacababna was his attempt to cross over to disco.

my first romantic thoughts had his music mixed in.

i business in my neighborhood has a huge, early picture of him with long hair.

Mandy came and gave without taking, and then was seent away.

    dont forget the beegees

Heather: why do you pretend to be something your not? Are you into metal or soft rock?

I'm not sure I understand you Mario. Let me explain it so YOU understand. When I was young, sometimes I used to sing along with the music my mom listened to. I was like 3, so I really didn't have musical preferences then. Then, when I was a teen and into metal, she pulled out this tape of me singing Barry Manilow. So you see Mario, as a toddler or a teenager, I wasn't pretending to be something I'm not.

And to answer your question, I listen to all types of music. I didn't know I had to pick just one, or risk having to be challenged by you.

    Heather:
My mom has similar recordings of me singing Neil Diamond songs. She still loves him. I recently saw him on the news in his shiny red shirt and had to laugh.

We are certainly hostages of our mother's musical tastes for awhile.

But then, my mother also has a recording of my birth (on 9 mm, no less). When I was a teenager, she always threatened to show it to my friends... Mom, nooooo!

Rebecca, perhaps we should start some kind of support group?

Here, here, here!! I love that man! Best song: I write the songs. Had tickets for a concert a few years ago, but the concert was cancelled and he never came back, till now.

Streisand is ok, Daimond is good, Billie Joel is wonderful!! His New York song is one of the greatest songs ever written.
you know his father and brother are living right here in Vienna? His brother is quite a famous conductor here at the opera.

The Carpenters were something else too. Karen's voice was like my own, well mine is not that good of course. I still remember the day she died, I was so upset about that. She was the first person I heard about anorexia.

Take care and enjoy the music, Renee

Semstr, I loved Karen Carpenter too. A good friend of mine sang one of her songs at my first wedding many moons ago. What a tragedy to lose such a gift so young. May she continue to rest in peace.

I love Barbara Streisand, too. She's another very gifted performer.

Barry Manilow has a voice like a songbird. I love hearing him sing!

Mattsmom, yes, we are definitely telling our ages here. :chuckle

Aww Heather (sad frown). I was just being stupid and teasing, because I feel comfortable with you. You were the only person to snipe me way back when I first came on. I understand ya. plus, your tate is admired by me. We've spoken about music before :-0

Maybe I need to check myself before I shoot my cyber mouth off like some jackass, :-)

My parents took super eight pictures of me. You are too young to remember that film medium; It was before video. I'm not intending to sound like a father figure, or some trusted and respected elder :-(
