I've been halfway watching the Barbara Walters special, and he is one of the guests being interviewed. He said his Gramma was "meeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnn!" She "made" him practice his piano long hours. "Gramma," he'd say, " the neighbor kids are going to the park to play."
"Oh really?" she'd reply. "You're not."
"Gramma, so-and-so is going to Six Flags!"
"Oh? YOU'RE not."
But he knew she loved him fiercely. Apparently she passed away just as "Ray" was premiering in theaters. I'm sure he thinks of her A LOT. Several family members live with him (half-sisters and step-dad). He seems like a decent guy; I congratulate him on his award.
SOMETIME I would like to see Johnny Depp FINALLY win a tangible recognition for his outstanding talents. SOMETIME.
Ah, but we speak of Hollywood. He'll probably get some lifetime achievement award when he's pushin' 80.
Speaking of which, it was great to see Clint Eastwood win best director award, and give honor to his 96-year-old
Mom, who was in the audience!! And then he cracked some line about him being in the geriatric crowd of a lot of those who worked on "Million Dollar Baby." Funny.
Did NOT care for Hilary Swank's gown. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansen (sp?) looked great (Portman is SO petite!!), as the occasion required, and most of the presenters looked very elegant. Didn't care for Chris Rock as well as other hosts, sorry to say. Just didn't "click" with me. But, hey, it's not up to "me!"
