Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood has the most successful debut album of any Idol. The has had several huge country hits, won numerous pretigious awards and is up for some Grammy awards. Her album was #4 last week and this week is #15.........the amazing thing about this is that it's been on the charts for 59 weeks. Quadruple platinum. She's currently #1 on the country album charts ahead of superstars Rascal Flats and Keith Urban, fueled by her lated #1 country song. Bonafied superstar.

Season 5 4th place winner Chris Daughtery is outselling first place winner Taylor Hicks. Chris enjoyed huge sales benefiting from Xmas sales and is currently #8 on the charts after six weeks and peaking at #2. Double platinum.

Taylor Hicks is charting below his rival on AI and after debuting at #2, dropped to 15 and now is sitting at #36.

Clay Aiken's 2nd album came and went with nary anyone noticing. He enjoyed good first weeks sales from his fans and now he's off the charts. His longevity in the music business is doubtful.

Katherine McPhee's album is coming out in the next week or two.

Kelly Clarkson is in the studios now recording album #3. It will be hard to stop her huge sales of album #2, but she's sure to have a huge fan base and will enjoy strong sales.

Kellie Pickler is doing respectfully on the country charts where her album debuted at #1 on the country charts. She's currently in 84 on the overall sales chart, and #12 on the country chart. A hit record on the country charts would serve her well.

Season 2 winner Reuben Studdard isn't fairing too well in sales, but he has the #1 song on the "R&B Adult Song Chart" which is a format of radio that doesn't have a huge audience, however, it did his mentor/idol Luther Vandross very well.

Season 3 winner Fantasia is all over the place promoting her 2nd album.
It's been out three weeks and is falling down the charts, currently at 66. Her Lifestime biograghy last year was well received and apparently was one of the highest rated shows ever recorded on the Lifetime Network.

We've already acknowledged in another thread that Season 3's 6th place finisher scored the role of a lifetime as Effie in "Dreamgirls" and steals the show. She has a Golden Globe nomination, and is the only sure thing in the oscar nominations soon to be announced. Record producer Clive Davis snatchered her up this year and she's recording her first album.

I usually buy all the AI records when they come out, but went on a buying freeze last April to control my overspending habits and haven't gotten any of these above, but for Some Hearts by Carrie Underwood which I bought over a year ago.

Wow, Tweety, nice comprehensive retrospective, thank you! I'll be watching again, I'm just not all starry-eyed like I was the first two seasons. It's still interesting, though, and so unpredictable!!

Thanks also for the heads-up on the 1/16 and 1/17 premiere, I'll be watching, if I can!

Yep Dianah, I feel the same way. I still love it, but I think we're more sophisticated in our viewing and armchair judging.

I forgot to mention 3rd Season 2nd place finisher Diana DeGarmo's first CD bombed royally and she was dropped by the label. She did get a part on Broadway in "Hairspray" and is working on an independent album.

Jasmine Trios of the same season made a ton of money in the Philippines, being of Filipino heritage, doing product endorsement and singing.

Justin Guarinni (sp?) bombed and was dropped by his label as well and has been struggling since trying to claw his way back. I recently saw a picture of him doing a bit part for a TV in which he covered his locked with a straight-haired wig, and actually looked quite good. It would be nice if he could make a comeback like Jennifer Hudson.

Season 2 3rd place finisher, and one of my favorite idols, Kimberly Locke put out a very good album, and made some minor waves on the adult contemporary format and I hear is putting out her second album soon. She also did very well on the dance charts, a format listened to by gay men in the clubs, of which she's made a club tour enduring her to legions of gay fans. (Jennifer Hudson is marketing to gay fans as well. She appeared in Orlandos gay pride parade a few years back, and was on the cover of the magazine the Advocate recently.)

Season 2 4th place winner Joshua Gracin, enjoyed tremendous success on country radio having a #1 hit post-idol and his 2nd album is coming out soon, or is out.

Season 1 9th place finisher and the only contestent to ever come out as gay, put out a funky dance (think early George Michael) album, and has starred in a few indie flicks.

Sickening that most of these posts are from memory. Sheesh, I seriously need a life. LOL

I don't even know hardly any of those people you mentioned! I can't believe it's been on that long. lol

Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are favorites, Kelly Pickler sounds familiar too.

Whatever happened to the runner up with Carrie Underwood?

I start back to school on the 16th, but I'm sure it will be on somewhere in my house. haha

Oh...and reality shows are old. hahahahahaha

I cannot wait for the new one to start

I want to go buy Chris' album. Other than Kelly Clarkson (I adore her), I don't have any other AI CDs. I'll probably buy Kat's, too.

i started out buying the albums/cds that were my favorites, but sense being on a "no nonsense budget" this past year, i've not bought anyone's music.

i luv, luv, luv kelly clarkson (still my favorite of all the ai's). i luv carrie underwood and most definitely luv jennifer hudson! wow! jennifer will do great as long as she doesn't get taken up by the hooplah in hollywood. i'm still very impressed with kathryn mcphee and hope she does well in her music career.

That would be Bo Bice. He did o.k. His single "The Real Thing" got a lot of airplay on Vh1 and "adult" oriented radio stations. But he didn't have a followup single that got any attention. His longevity in the business is doubtful.

That's right....Bo. He was cute...but boy did he have an attitude!

As soon as he started making the "I don't care whether I win or not" comments, I knew he wast toast.

I really thought he and his band would get more attention from all the publicity, though.

I think my dd has Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood CDs...not too sure about any others.

I heard the other day that Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts sold 66,000 copies in December. Not bad for an album that has been out for 14 months.

From the same source (Jimmy Carter from Nashville) I hear that Bucky Covington has a record deal and his first album should be out soon. I can't recall who's producing it but it's someone with a fair bit of clout.

Kellie Pickler's debut single Red High Heels is bouncy and fun and might still move up the charts some.

My rotation at work is really not AI friendly. Boo hiss. I might have to invest in yet another VCR...

Was that in Canada Jan, because she sold more than that during Christmas. The week leading up to Christmas she sold nearly 300,000 that one week in the USA placing her at #4 for the week.Nas Scores Third No. 1 Album With 'Hip-Hop Is Dead' (I'm a Billboard fan..which is where I get most of my Triva).

Otherwise you might have been hearing a sales figure the this week in the US.

Yes, amazing for a record released a year ago. It's being fueled by her #1 song that is currently on the country charts "Before He Cheats", as well as the other hits she's had, but she has a current hit which is fueling current sales.

You're right about Pickler's song. It's currently #18 and apparently is picking up airplay moving up the charts. I haven't heard it.

It's interesting that the country singers on AI are getting amazing support from country radio and Nashville. Unlike other AI artists like Clay Aiken or Taylor Hicks who can't pay a pop station to play their stuff.

    TMI I know.
