A Recipe Thread????

  1. Ever felt like you've cooked or eaten every possible form of food on the planet??? Well, that's where I'm at right now. We just got a hog and a cow butchered and sitting in my deep freeze and all I can do is stare at it all with an empty expression. My dh (bless is heart) could eat the same things over and over and over and over and well, you get the idea - his philosophy, "don't fix what isn't broken" - and I like to try new things. Just itchin for a good recipe. He is a meat and potatoes man, likes spicy stuff - not a big fan of chicken or bread, but does like casseroles.

    Maybe this would be a good opportunity to share some good recipes with eachother!!

    I almost don't eat meat anymore.
    But your DH may like simple and easy meals I used to make.

    Swiss Steak:
    pound a thin tough slice of beef with a mallet or the dull side of a knife in many directions.
    Put the meat in a zip lock bag with 50% flour & 50% cornstarch. Shake it to coat, let it sit and shake again. Mash down on the meat to really coat it.
    Brown in oil.
    Turn the heat way down and add 1.4 cup of water. (it will boil off)
    Add a can of tomatos and a can of onion soup.
    Simmer covered until tender. At least 30 minutes.
    Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.
    Shepards pie:
    Bite size chunks of beef simmered in your favorite gravy. I like lots of garlic and black pepper.
    Add bite size vegetables you like. I like carrots, celery, onions, peas, and string beans.
    Spread mashed potatoes or garlic mashed potatoes on top.
    Very nice when individual pies are made.
