A name change

  1. Okay this is out of style but during the WW11. The Allies and Japanese had one of the biggest battle in the south pacific which was called the Battle of Guadalcanal ( which is in my country) where the very slow movie of the decade called "the thin red line" was filmed.
During those times, our international airport was born, and was named after the US General something Henderson the first US Marine to be killed by the Japanese. For more than 50 years the Henderson Airport was upgraded and is the gateway to the solomon islands.

A month ago, the japanese government poured in thier millions of Yen in the country to upgrade the airport in one condition the name Henderson has to be changed to the National flower of the japanese. This has angered the US Marines and called on the poor country to think about it before it gave in bad impressions to the country and both parties.

Meanwhile most of the islanders doesn't agree.

This is a piece of news to you about what is going on outside the states.

    THANK YOU!
Tell us more about your country and the thoughts of people there.
I don't think I've met any nurses from The Solomon Islands. Found a link for tourists.

I have no idea what to think about the name change. What do you think?

    Well, spacenurse.

Most of the islanders aren't happy in changing the name because its part of the history of the country.

Why has the other party (Japanese) wanted to change the name when most of us know that they have lost (hope am not doing any damage here) grrrr....

If the name is change it will be a bad impression on tourism.:wink2:

By the way you have given us a good link to Guadalcanal,
    here is another one

I should let Jayna answer to quote, "A month ago, the japanese government poured in thier millions of Yen in the country to upgrade the airport in one condition the name Henderson has to be changed to the National flower of the japanese. "

No offense from me. My uncle was a US Marine fighting the Japanese in the south Pacific during WWII.
The Japanese government is not now the same as those who bombed Pearl Harbor.

Well that is very true spacenurse.

But talking about this change of name has made the US Marines and the japanese brought in old memories to themselves too.

Answer to that, is we think it was not really what the japanese has thought because that is being silly, but due to the corrupt government in the solomon islands that wanted to anger other countries....
