a daughter of the clergy

  1. Last Friday, after 7 years of hard work and theological study, my father was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic church. I'm very proud of him and what a ceremony! Seeing my father in robes being blessed by the archbishop. There must have been at least 50 priests there, I've never seen so many in one room in my life. Today, he is giving his first homily before his parish's congregation.

Was this a lifelong dream of his? Congrats to him, for pursuing it, as he feels called. Wow!

Well if you ask his mother, he was always meant to be a priest, but my mother had to come along and ruin things . I don't know if it was a life long dream, he's always been a religious man. He and my mother began attending the Nathaniel Program a few years ago, which was all about theological study and introspection and some of the people who completed that progam were invited to consider diaconate training. Of course my Mother did the same work alongside him but you know the catholic church..........

I hear ya. While the rewards for ministerial work are often intangible and come from within, from the sense of fulfillment of one's life's mission (I'm speculating here!), - the true and just Judge, I believe, will also recompense those who are "shorted" here on earth. Including women who minister just as ably as men, but who remain unrecognized.
Life is just not fair anywhere.
    Again, congrats to your dad!

Congratulations! You must be so proud of him. My husband was ordained a priest in the American Catholic Church of the U.S. in 9/03. He had been in the deaconate before he met me, but due to changes in the church in CA, and the earthquake damage to the churches, and the financial burden of the repair...yadda yadda yadda, he was told that they couldn't afford to take him on right then. Then he met me. He is so happy to finally be a priest. In fact, he is also one of the main liturgists for the ACCUS. His dream fulfilled!
