  1. 51% of Women Are Now Living Without Spouse

For what experts say is probably the first time, more American women are living without a husband than with one, according to a New York Times analysis of census results.

    Wise women those Americans!
I've already decided if I end up either a widow or a divorcee, I'll remain single from then onwards!

My Father laments that people don't seem to value each other and a shared commitment anymore. He thinks material influence is one of the primary factors for the "shocking divorce rates in the West" (his words).

He doesn't attribute this to the rise or decline of any particular religion or it's influence - but he believes that people have replaced spiritualism with crass consumptive materialism - to the point where no one thinks of anyone else but themselves.

Personally - I don't share his bleak outlook on the future of human partnerships and society. I'm very hopeful and confident about my generation.

    cheers,

This study is controversial . . . .they added in alot of women that shouldn't be part of the survey . . . like women whose husbands work out of town (mine) . . . . I'll try to find the article that addresses this later . . can't do it at work.

Here's my question: why wasn't there a survey about the percentage of men without a spouse?
