I couldn't make the caption big enough to read, but I think it says that thing is what computers will look like in 2004?

lol, I love the Captain's Wheel the best! Does the computer come with it's own ship to haul it around perhaps?

It says, "Scientists from the RAND Corporation have created this model to illustrate how a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004. However the needed technology will not be economically feasable for the average home. "

My Dad subscribed to Popular Mechanic and I flipped through each issue. I remember the kitchen that would clean itself and the air car. Don't remember this but did take a tour to see a computer that took up an entire room with its punch card system.

I'd like to find some pictures of some of the first Tomorrowland exhibits at Disneyland -- VERY futuristic, and just as quaint now as that "home computer," I'm sure!

    Thanks for the laugh!!

what an awesome site! Good info too and now when I look back at the pic it looks totally fake.

But the idea is still pretty much the same. I have seen in old mags that my grandma kept from the 70s some of the very large computers that were used that took up the space of an entire room. Looking at those legit pics, it is still amazing how far we have come with computer technology.

Its amazing that the computers use to be so big and in 50 years they have gone sooo much smaller...we will probably be able to wear them on our wrists sometimes soon....and be able to to carry the phone inside our ear LOLOL
